Let It Ride poker is a house-banked stud game where you place three equal bets, see three cards, and can take back up to two of those bets as two community cards are revealed. There is no dealer hand to beat: a pair of tens or better pays from a fixed paytable. This guide covers the rules, the paytable, a simple strategy and the house edge for UK players.
Let It Ride poker starts with three equal bets; you can pull back the first two as the cards appear, but the third always stays.
Hands are paid from a paytable, from 1 to 1 for a pair of tens or better up to 1,000 to 1 for a royal flush on the standard version.
With correct play the house edge is about 3.51% of a single base bet; the decision rules are short enough to learn.
House-played poker such as Let It Ride falls under the UK 5-second minimum game cycle and autoplay ban since 17 January 2025; 18+.

What Let It Ride poker is
Let It Ride poker is a casino table game based on five-card stud, created in the early 1990s by the shuffling machine company Shuffle Master, whose games business now sits within Light & Wonder. It belongs to the house-banked poker family alongside Three Card Poker, Caribbean Stud and Casino Hold'em.
Two things make it unusual. First, there is no dealer hand: you are paid purely on the strength of your own five-card hand, using your three cards plus two shared community cards. Second, instead of raising as the hand goes on, you start with three bets and decide whether to take some of them back. Letting a bet ride means leaving it on the table.
The game is a staple in many US casinos but is less common in UK online lobbies than blackjack, roulette or baccarat, so you may need to search for it by name.
How to play Let It Ride poker, step by step
Place three equal bets, often labelled 1, 2 and $. With a £5 unit, £15 goes on the table.
You receive three cards face up. Two community cards are dealt face down.
First decision: pull back bet 1 or let it ride.
The first community card is turned over.
Second decision: pull back bet 2 or let it ride. You can do this even if you let bet 1 ride, and vice versa.
The second community card is turned over, completing your five-card hand.
Every bet still in play is paid according to the paytable, or lost if your hand is below a pair of tens.
The $ bet can never be withdrawn, so at least one unit is always at risk. Any side bet, often a three-card bonus, is settled separately on your first three cards. Each hand must be started by you at a UK-licensed casino, because autoplay is banned on online casino games.
Let It Ride paytable and hand probabilities
Each bet still in play is paid at the same odds. The paytable below is the standard version; some games use different payouts or cap the total paid on a single hand, so the help screen is the reference for the table you open.

Roughly three hands in four lose. The game's appeal is that, when you do land a strong hand with all three bets riding, the payout applies three times over. The royal flush glossary entry covers the top hand, and the paytable glossary entry explains how to read tables like this.
Let It Ride poker strategy: when to let a bet ride
The strategy is about one question at each decision: is this bet worth more than nothing on average? If yes, let it ride; if no, take it back. Because the $ bet stays regardless, the decisions only affect bets 1 and 2.

Fuller published strategies add a few marginal three-card straight flush draws involving high cards; the difference they make is very small. The big errors to avoid are riding with weak hands such as a single high card, or a low pair below tens, which do not pay on their own.
Pulling back is the normal decision in Let It Ride. Most hands should end with only the $ bet in play, and that is correct play, not timidity.
Let It Ride worked examples in pounds
All three examples use a £5 unit, so £15 is staked at the start.
Pair of jacks dealt in your first three cards. It already pays, so let both bets ride. The board adds nothing. Three bets win 1 to 1: profit £15.
Three unconnected low cards. Pull back bet 1. The first community card does not help, so pull back bet 2. The hand finishes as a pair of fours, below tens. You lose the $ bet only: £5.
Three hearts in sequence: 9, 10, J. Let bet 1 ride. The first community card is the 4 of hearts, giving four to a flush, so let bet 2 ride. The last card is the 2 of hearts, completing a flush that pays 8 to 1 on all three bets: profit £120.
These illustrate how variable results are. The average cost with correct play is about 3.51% of one base bet per hand: around 17.6p per hand on a £5 unit, or about £17.55 over 100 hands, although the swings around that figure are large.
Let It Ride house edge and how it compares
With correct strategy and the standard paytable, Let It Ride's house edge is about 3.51% measured against one base bet. Because you sometimes have two or three units in play, the edge per pound actually wagered is lower, but quoting it per base unit is the standard way to compare it with other games.

Variants differ and some cap payouts on rare hands, which raises the edge slightly. Side bets have their own, usually higher, edges. Our guides to the house edge and to lowest house edge games put these numbers in a wider context.
UK rules for online Let It Ride poker
Let It Ride is house-played poker, which the Gambling Commission specifically names as covered by its January 2025 game speed rule. Since 17 January 2025, the speed-of-play requirement (opens in a new tab) means a new game cycle cannot begin within 5 seconds of the previous one starting. Peer-to-peer poker, where you play other people, is excluded.
Autoplay is banned, so each hand must be dealt on your instruction; see game design rules.
Net position and time played must be displayed during a session.
Slot stake limits do not apply, so table minimums and maximums are set per game.
If you want to try Let It Ride in demo mode, UK rules allow that only after age verification, in place since May 2019. See demo game rules.
Let It Ride myths and betting systems
Letting everything ride is braver and pays more. It pays more when you win, but riding with weak hands increases the average loss.
A low pair is worth riding. Pairs below tens do not pay; only some draw combinations justify letting a bet ride.
Cold decks should be avoided. RNG versions shuffle every hand; earlier results do not affect the next. See the gambler's fallacy.
Raising the unit after losses wins it back. Progressions do not change the edge; see betting systems explained.
Bankroll maths for Let It Ride
Budget for the full three units, not one. A £60 session budget at a £5 unit covers four hands at full exposure, though in practice most hands end with only £5 lost. Plan your bankroll on the maximum at risk per hand, and decide on a hand count before you start.
Use your casino's deposit limit and time-out tools to keep sessions within plan. Losses are likely over time.

Frequently asked questions
How do you play Let It Ride poker?
You play Let It Ride poker by placing three equal bets, receiving three cards and seeing two community cards revealed one at a time. After your first three cards you may pull back bet 1; after the first community card you may pull back bet 2; the third bet always stays. Your final five-card hand is paid from a paytable on every bet still in play, starting with a pair of tens or better at 1 to 1. See casino card games for related games.
What is the house edge in Let It Ride?
With correct strategy and the standard paytable, the house edge in Let It Ride is about 3.51% of one base bet. On a £5 unit, that is an average cost of about 17.6p per hand, though results swing widely. The edge is higher if you ride bets with weak hands or play a version with a lower paytable or a payout cap. Side bets carry separate, usually higher, edges. Our house edge guide explains how these figures are calculated.
When should you let it ride?
Let a bet ride when your hand already pays or has a strong draw. With three cards, ride on a pair of tens or better, three of a kind, three to a royal flush, or three suited cards in sequence except 2-3-4 and A-2-3. With four cards, ride on any paying hand, four to a flush or four to an open-ended straight containing a ten or higher. Otherwise pull the bet back. See Three Card Poker for a simpler decision game.
Can you take back all three bets in Let It Ride?
No. You can withdraw only the first two bets; the third, usually marked $, stays in play until the hand ends. That guarantees the house always has at least one unit at risk on every hand. In practice correct strategy pulls back both optional bets on most hands, leaving only that single unit. When your hand is strong, all three can ride and the paytable applies to each. Our Caribbean Stud guide shows a contrasting raise-based structure.
What hands pay in Let It Ride poker?
A pair of tens or better is the lowest paying hand in Let It Ride, at 1 to 1. Above that, the standard paytable pays two pair 2 to 1, three of a kind 3 to 1, a straight 5 to 1, a flush 8 to 1, a full house 11 to 1, four of a kind 50 to 1, a straight flush 200 to 1 and a royal flush 1,000 to 1. Some versions vary or cap payouts. The paytable glossary entry explains how to compare them.
Is there a dealer hand in Let It Ride?
No, there is no dealer hand to beat in Let It Ride. You are paid purely on the strength of your own five-card hand, made from your three cards plus the two community cards. That is different from Casino Hold'em, Caribbean Stud and Three Card Poker, where the dealer's hand and qualifying rules affect your result. The dealer simply manages the cards and settles bets. Our Casino Hold'em guide explains how a dealer-hand game differs.
Is Let It Ride available at UK online casinos?
Let It Ride is available at some UK-licensed casinos, usually as an RNG table game, but it is less common than blackjack, roulette, baccarat or Three Card Poker. Lobbies change, so search for it by name and check the paytable, side bets and table limits in the help screen before playing. Always confirm the casino's licence on the Gambling Commission's register first. See how to check a casino licence for a quick method.
Do UK speed rules apply to Let It Ride?
Yes. The Gambling Commission's rules for non-slot casino games, in force since 17 January 2025, require at least 5 seconds per game cycle and name house-played poker such as Three Card Poker as covered, which includes games like Let It Ride. The cycle is measured from the start of one hand to the start of the next. Autoplay is banned and net position must be displayed. Peer-to-peer poker is excluded. See table game speed rules.
Is the Let It Ride side bet worth it?
Usually not on value alone. Many Let It Ride games offer a side bet, often a three-card bonus paid on your first three cards, and its house edge depends on the paytable, which commonly makes it more expensive per pound than the main game. It can pay large multiples on rare hands, which is its appeal. If you play it, treat it as a separate, budgeted extra and check the paytable first. See our side bet glossary entry for comparisons across games.
