Qualifying deposit meaning: the payment that meets an offer's conditions and so triggers the bonus or spins. To qualify it usually has to be a minimum amount, made with an accepted payment method, within a set time and, for welcome offers, as your first deposit. Miss any one and the bonus does not arrive.
A qualifying deposit must pass four tests: amount, payment method, timing and which deposit it is.
Minimums vary: £10 for PlayOJO's offer, £20 for Casumo's match.
E-wallets and prepaid cards are excluded from the Coral and Ladbrokes welcome offers.
Credit cards cannot be used to gamble in Great Britain at all, since 14 April 2020.

Qualifying deposit meaning: the four tests
Bonus terms treat a deposit as "qualifying" only when it ticks every box the offer sets. In UK casino terms those boxes fall into four groups, and the table shows how each one appears in our partners' published welcome terms.

Test
What it means
Partner example
Amount
At least the stated minimum
PlayOJO £10; Casumo £20
Payment method
Only accepted methods count
Coral excludes Neteller, PayPal, Paysafe, Skrill, prepaid cards and certain debit cards
Timing
Made within the offer window
10bet: first deposit within 7 days of choosing the bonus
Which deposit
Often the first deposit only
PlayOJO, Casumo and 10bet: first deposit
Some offers add a fifth step: a qualifying bet. Coral and Ladbrokes both ask you to deposit and then stake £10 or more on slots before spins are credited. The deposit opens the door, but the bet is what triggers the reward.
Why the payment method decides whether a deposit qualifies
A wider rule sits behind all of this. Gambling on credit cards has been banned in Great Britain since 14 April 2020, and the Commission's guide on gambling using a credit card (opens in a new tab) explains that this extends to e-wallets loaded by credit card. A credit-funded deposit is therefore not a valid deposit at all, let alone a qualifying one. See the credit card ban for the detail. A debit card is the method most offers accept.
Qualifying deposit examples in pounds
Casumo, £15 deposit: below the £20 minimum, so it does not qualify. The £15 is still yours to play or withdraw, but no 50% bonus is added.
Casumo, £60 deposit: qualifies, giving a £30 bonus that must be wagered 10x (£300) within 7 days at no more than £5 a bet.
PlayOJO, £10 first deposit via the offer link: qualifies for 80 spins at 10p, worth £8 in total stakes, with winnings paid as cash.
Coral, £10 by PayPal then £10 on slots: the bet is placed, but PayPal is excluded, so no spins.
Coral, £10 by an eligible debit card then £10 on slots: qualifies for 100 spins at 10p (£10 of spins).
Qualifying deposits and the first-deposit limit prompt
Since 31 October 2025 casinos have had to prompt you to set a financial limit before your first deposit, with setting a limit as the default and opting out needing confirmation. That prompt appears just before the qualifying deposit on most welcome offers, and the Commission's post on changes to customer-led tools (opens in a new tab) sets out the detail. A limit does not stop a deposit qualifying as long as the amount fits inside it. Our deposit limit rules page and how to set deposit limits guide explain the options.
How to make sure a deposit qualifies
Open the offer's significant terms and note the minimum, accepted methods and deadline.
Opt in or select the offer first if the terms require it.
Set your deposit limit when prompted, at a level that suits your budget.
Deposit at least the minimum with an eligible method, in one transaction.
Place any qualifying bet the offer asks for, such as £10 on slots.
Confirm in the promotions area that the reward has been credited before playing on.

Frequently asked questions
What does qualifying deposit mean?
It means a deposit that meets every condition an offer sets, so the casino credits the bonus or spins. The usual conditions are a minimum amount, an accepted payment method, timing and, for welcome offers, being your first deposit. Casumo's welcome match, for instance, needs at least £20. A deposit that misses any condition still adds money to your account but triggers nothing. Our how to deposit at an online casino guide and how do I claim a casino bonus explain the process.
Why didn't my deposit qualify for the bonus?
The most likely reasons are an excluded payment method, a deposit below the minimum, a missed opt-in or the deposit not being your first. Coral and Ladbrokes, for example, exclude PayPal, Skrill, Neteller, Paysafe and prepaid cards from their welcome offers. Check the significant terms against what you did, then contact support before playing the deposit. See why did my free spins not appear and our casino welcome bonus mistakes guide for the common slips.
Does PayPal count as a qualifying deposit?
It depends on the offer, and at Coral and Ladbrokes the welcome terms exclude PayPal. Other casinos may accept it, so the offer's terms are the only reliable guide. PayPal itself is allowed for gambling in the UK, provided the account is not funded by a credit card. If you prefer PayPal, check eligibility before you deposit. Our PayPal payments page covers how it works at casinos, and the PayPal casino bonus page tracks which offers accept it.
Can I split a qualifying deposit into two payments?
Usually not; most terms look at a single deposit, often the first, so two £5 payments rarely count as a £10 qualifying deposit. Some offers instead measure total deposits or total bets over a period, and the wording will say so. If in doubt, make one deposit of at least the minimum. Our minimum deposit at UK casinos page explains typical minimums, and the low deposit casinos guide covers smaller-budget options.
Is a qualifying deposit the same as a minimum deposit?
Not quite; the minimum deposit is the smallest payment the cashier accepts, while a qualifying deposit is the smallest that unlocks an offer. Casumo's homepage says its minimum deposit is £10 for all methods, yet its welcome match needs £20. So a £10 deposit is accepted but does not trigger the bonus. Check both figures before paying. See Casumo minimum deposit and our £10 deposit offers page for current examples.
Can I withdraw a qualifying deposit straight away?
Your deposit is your own money, so in principle yes, though withdrawing before meeting an offer's conditions usually cancels the bonus. With no-wagering spins, such as Coral's or PlayOJO's, the deposit has no play-through attached; with a match bonus, the order in which cash and bonus are used matters. Identity checks may also apply before any withdrawal. Read can I withdraw a casino bonus and how to withdraw casino winnings.
Do I need a promo code for a qualifying deposit?
Not at our partners; none of their current welcome offers needs a promo code. Coral and Ladbrokes credit spins after the qualifying deposit and slots bet, PlayOJO's offer works through its designated offer link, and Casumo and 10bet ask you to opt in or choose the bonus. A code is only needed where the terms say so. Our casino bonus codes page lists current status, and Coral promo code explains that brand's process.
