Football Studio is a live card game from Evolution dressed up as a football show: one card is dealt to Home, one to Away, and the higher card wins. It has nothing to do with real matches. Home and Away return about 96.27%, while the Draw returns about 89.64%. Here is how it works and what UK rules apply, checked 20 October 2026.
Each round is two cards from an eight-deck shoe; the higher card wins and ace is the top card.
Home and Away pay evens but lose half the stake on a draw, giving about a 3.73% edge.
The Draw pays 11 to 1 and wins about 7.47% of the time, an edge of about 10.36%.
Football Studio is a casino game, not a sports bet; partner free spins can’t be used on it. 18+, terms apply.

What is Football Studio?
This live dealer game from Evolution, presented like a football television programme with a host, a studio set and match-style graphics. Underneath the theme, it is a very simple card comparison. Two cards are dealt, one for the Home team and one for the Away team, and you bet on which will be higher or on a draw.
The football look is only presentation. The cards decide everything, and no real fixture, score or player affects the outcome. That distinction matters for UK rules on promotions, explained below. If you are after a bet on actual matches, that is sports betting under a different licence; Football Studio sits in the casino lobby next to live game shows and card tables.
How to play Football Studio
Open Football Studio from the live casino lobby at a UK-licensed site and note the minimum and maximum stakes.
During the betting countdown, place chips on Home, Away or Draw.
The dealer draws one card for Home and one for Away from an eight-deck shoe.
The higher card wins. Card values run from 2 (lowest) to ace (highest); suits are ignored.
If both cards share a rank, it is a draw: Draw bets are paid at 11 to 1, and Home and Away bets lose half their stake.
Results are added to the on-screen scoreboard and the next countdown starts.
You start every round yourself. Under UK rules in force since 17 January 2025, online casino games can’t be played on autoplay, and repeat-bet buttons still need a press each time.
Football Studio payouts, odds and RTP
With eight decks there are 416 cards. Whatever the Home card is, 31 of the 415 cards left share its rank, so the chance of a draw is 31 in 415, or 7.47%. The two sides split the rest equally at 46.27% each. Combine that with the payouts and you get the return on each bet.

Worked example: £5 on Away for 200 rounds is £1,000 staked. Expect about 92.5 wins (+£462.65), 92.5 losses (−£462.65) and 15 draws costing £2.50 each (about −£37.35). The average result is a loss of about £37, or 3.73%. The RTP shown in the game’s help screen is the figure that applies at your casino.
Is the Football Studio draw bet worth it?
The Draw looks tempting at 11 to 1, but a fair price would be about 12.4 to 1. That gap costs you about 10.36p per £1 on average, almost three times the cost of backing Home or Away. A draw comes up roughly once every 13 or 14 rounds, so long runs without one are normal.

Adding a small Draw bet as “insurance” against the half-stake loss doesn’t remove the cost; it adds a second, more expensive bet on top. Our page on insurance-style bets explains the same trap in blackjack.
Football Studio Dice and other versions
Evolution also runs Football Studio Dice, a version that uses dice instead of cards, which its game listings describe as offering tie payouts of up to 80x. Because the format and paytable are different, its odds and RTP differ from the card game; check its own help screen. The structure of a Home-versus-Away comparison with a tie is also shared with Bac Bo, which uses dice, and Dragon Tiger, which uses cards with a different ranking.

Football Studio is not a sports bet: why it matters
Since 19 January 2026, the Gambling Commission has banned promotions that mix gambling products, for example “bet on football to unlock casino spins”, as announced in its news on safer and simpler promotions (opens in a new tab). As a casino product, the game can’t take a sportsbook free bet, and a casino offer can’t require you to place a sports bet to unlock it. Our page on the mixed-product promotions ban explains the rule.
It also matters for budgeting. If you bet on real football too, keep the two separate in your head and in your limits. Football Studio results come round every few seconds after betting closes, much faster than any match, so the same stake goes a lot further, and costs a lot more, in an hour.
Pace. RNG non-slot games must run at least 5 seconds per game cycle since 17 January 2025, under the speed-of-play decision (opens in a new tab); live rounds are naturally slower.
No autoplay. Every round is started individually.
Session display. Net position and time played stay on screen.
Stakes. No national cap: the £5 and £2 per-spin limits are for slots only, and the casino sets table limits.
Bonuses. Wagering is capped at 10 times the bonus since 19 January 2026, under the 10x cap.
Football Studio strategies and scoreboard myths
The on-screen scoreboard shows recent Home, Away and Draw results, which invites pattern-spotting. Those results are history, not a forecast. Each round draws from a shuffled eight-deck shoe, and a run of Home wins doesn’t change the next card. Systems that raise stakes after losses only move the money at risk; our betting systems guide shows how fast Martingale-style doubling escalates.
Home advantage. There is none; Home and Away have identical odds.
Backing both sides. You break even on most rounds and lose half of both stakes on a draw.
Draws come in clusters. Clusters are a normal feature of randomness; see the gambler’s fallacy.
Budgeting for Football Studio
Pick a stake and a stopping time before kick-off, so to speak. If you play 50 rounds at £2 on Home, you stake £100 and the average cost is £3.73, but a run of draws or losses can make the real result much worse. Set a deposit limit, consider a reality check, and remember that GAMSTOP (opens in a new tab) offers free self-exclusion from all UK-licensed sites. Frequently asked questions
How does Football Studio work?
Football Studio deals two cards from an eight-deck shoe, one to Home and one to Away, and the higher card wins. Values run from 2 up to ace, and suits don’t count. If the cards share a rank, it is a draw: Draw bets pay 11 to 1 and Home and Away bets lose half their stake. A presenter hosts the game in a football-themed studio. Results are random and unrelated to real matches. Our live casino UK guide covers similar studio games.
What is the RTP of Football Studio?
With eight decks, Home and Away return about 96.27%, meaning a house edge of about 3.73%, and the Draw at 11 to 1 returns about 89.64%. Those figures follow directly from the card odds: draws happen 7.47% of the time and cost Home and Away bettors half their stake. The help screen at your casino confirms the figures for the version you are playing. Our RTP explained guide shows what these numbers mean for a session.
Is Football Studio a sports bet?
No. It is a casino card game with a football theme; no real match, team or player affects the result. It is offered under a casino licence in the live lobby, not the sportsbook. Since 19 January 2026, UK promotions can’t mix casino and sports products, so a sports free bet can’t be used on it and a casino bonus can’t require a football bet. Our mixed-product promotions ban page explains the rule.
What happens on a draw in Football Studio?
When the Home and Away cards have the same rank, the round is a draw. Draw bets are paid at 11 to 1, and Home and Away bets lose half their stake rather than all of it, so £10 on Home returns £5. Draws happen about once every 13 or 14 rounds with an eight-deck shoe. This half-stake loss is where the house edge on the main bets comes from. See our tie bet glossary entry for comparisons with baccarat.
What is the best bet in Football Studio?
The two sides are equal best, each with an edge of about 3.73%. The Draw costs nearly three times as much at about 10.36%. Neither side has an advantage, whatever the scoreboard shows, so there is no reason to prefer one. Avoiding the Draw bet is the main way to reduce the cost of playing. If you want an even lower edge in a similar format, compare online baccarat, where the Banker bet costs about 1.06%.
Is Football Studio the same as Dragon Tiger?
They are very similar. Both deal one card to each of two sides and pay the higher card, with a tie option. The main differences are the ranking (Football Studio counts the ace high, while Dragon Tiger usually counts it low), the presentation (a football show versus a classic table) and the side bets each version offers. With eight decks and a half-stake loss on a tie, the main bets carry the same 3.73% edge. See our Dragon Tiger guide.
Can I play Football Studio for free?
Some casinos let logged-in players watch Football Studio without betting, which is a good way to learn the flow. Any free-to-play casino game in Great Britain can only be accessed after age verification, a rule in force since May 2019, so you’ll need a verified account. Demo-style viewing uses the same rules and payouts as real play. Our demo play guide covers what UK casinos can offer.
Can I use free spins or a bonus on Football Studio?
Free spins can’t be used on it: they are always tied to named slots, such as Big Bass Bonanza in PlayOJO’s offer. Bonus money may be usable if the terms allow live games, but many UK bonuses exclude or under-weight them. Wagering is capped at 10 times the bonus since 19 January 2026, yet a low contribution rate still slows clearing. Check the game restrictions first; our live casino bonus page explains what to look for. 18+, terms apply.
Is Football Studio rigged?
No, not at UK-licensed casinos. Cards are dealt on camera from a shoe in a studio run by a supplier licensed by the Gambling Commission, and the payouts that give the casino its edge are published in the help screen. Streaks and clusters of draws are a normal feature of random results. If you think a round was settled wrongly, keep the round ID and contact the casino. Our page on are live dealers real? explains how studios run.
