Casumo verification

Casumo verification starts the moment you register: UK rules require Casumo to confirm your age and identity before you can deposit or play, usually through an electronic check. Its withdrawal policy adds that extra checks may apply to a payout above about €1,000 or once your withdrawals pass about €2,000, so documents are sometimes requested later too.

Key takeaways

  • Age and identity must be verified before your first deposit or game, a UK rule since 7 May 2019.
  • Casumo’s withdrawal policy allows extra checks on single payouts over about €1,000 or cumulative withdrawals over about €2,000.
  • A casino can’t demand ID at withdrawal that it could reasonably have asked for earlier, and can’t keep your money because you verified late.
  • Casumo doesn’t publish a verification time, so sending clear documents quickly is the best way to keep things moving.

What Casumo verification involves

Verification, often called KYC (know your customer), is how Casumo confirms that you are who you say you are, that you are old enough to gamble and that the money you use is yours. It isn’t a Casumo invention: every operator licensed by the Gambling Commission must do it, and Casumo’s licence is held by Recro Limited under account 61549. Our general guide to KYC checks at online casinos explains the legal basis.

For most players, Casumo verification happens in the background in seconds. The details you enter at sign-up are compared with records such as the electoral roll and credit reference files. If everything matches, you can deposit straight away and may never be asked for a document. If something doesn’t match, or later activity calls for a closer look, Casumo will ask for evidence.

Casumo verification at sign-up

Since 7 May 2019, online casinos in Great Britain must verify age and identity before a customer can deposit, use a bonus or even open a free-play demo. The previous 72-hour window, which let people play before checks finished, no longer exists. The Gambling Commission’s age and ID verification guide (opens in a new tab) sets out these duties for players.

In practice this means the Casumo casino sign up process includes the check. Entering your full legal name, current address and correct date of birth gives the electronic check the best chance of passing. If it fails, you will be asked for documents before you can deposit, and that adds time while they are reviewed.

When Casumo asks for verification at withdrawal

The Casumo withdrawal policy (opens in a new tab) says withdrawals are allowed once deposits have cleared and verification is complete ‘to our reasonable satisfaction’. It adds that Casumo may run extra checks on any payout above the equivalent of €1,000, or once cumulative withdrawals exceed the equivalent of €2,000, and that checks can apply to smaller amounts too.

Worked example: you withdraw £300, then £500, then £1,200 over a few months. The third request crosses the cumulative threshold and is itself large, so it is the one most likely to trigger a document request. Knowing that, many players complete any outstanding checks before a big withdrawal rather than after it. Our Casumo withdrawal time page explains how a check affects the three-day approval window.

There is a firm limit on what can be demanded at this stage. A casino can’t make proof of identity a condition of withdrawal if it could reasonably have asked for it earlier, for example at registration, and Casumo’s policy says it won’t block withdrawals on that basis. Checks tied to the size of the payout, fraud or money laundering are separate and can still apply.

Documents that help with Casumo verification

Casumo’s published policy doesn’t list specific documents, so the right approach is to send what it asks for. The table shows what UK casinos commonly accept for each purpose, based on standard practice; Casumo’s request will say which apply to you. Our guide to casino verification documents has more detail on each.

Commonly requested verification documents at UK casinos
PurposeTypical documentsTips
IdentityPassport, photocard driving licence or national ID cardIn date, all four corners visible
AddressBank statement, utility or council tax billUsually dated within the last three months
Payment methodPhoto of your debit card or a wallet screenshotCover the middle card digits and never send the CVV
Source of fundsPayslips or bank statementsOnly when specifically requested

If you are asked for payslips or bank statements, the reason is usually spending levels rather than suspicion. The answer to why casinos want payslips explains the anti-money-laundering and safer gambling duties behind those requests, and proof of address for casinos covers what counts as a valid address document.

How to complete Casumo verification step by step

Casumo will tell you what it needs and how to send it, usually through a message in your account or by email. Follow that channel rather than guessing; documents sent elsewhere may not be matched to your account.

  1. Read the request carefully and note exactly which documents are needed.
  2. Photograph or scan each one in good light, showing every edge and with no glare on the text.
  3. Make sure names and addresses match the details on your Casumo account.
  4. Send the files through the method Casumo specifies.
  5. Keep a note of the date you sent them.
  6. If you hear nothing within a few days, email hey@casumo.com between 7:00 and 23:00 UK time and ask for an update.

Never send your full card number, CVV or online banking password. No legitimate casino needs them for verification.

How long Casumo verification takes

Casumo doesn’t publish a target time for reviewing documents. What it does publish is that a withdrawal should be approved or denied within three days, and that delays in providing requested information may delay withdrawals. So the practical answer is: electronic checks at sign-up take moments, and document reviews depend on how quickly and clearly you respond.

For comparison, PlayOJO’s help page says it aims to verify within 12 hours and suggests contacting support if there is no answer within 48 hours. That is PlayOJO’s figure, not Casumo’s, but it gives a sense of what is normal across the market. The question how long casino verification takes looks at the wider picture.

Financial checks and Casumo verification

Some checks look at your finances rather than your identity. Since 28 February 2025, operators must run a financial vulnerability check, a search of public records such as bankruptcies and county court judgments, once a customer’s net deposits pass £150 in a rolling 30 days. Before that date the threshold was £500. You usually won’t notice this check happening.

Credit-reference-based financial risk assessments were piloted but are not live, and the Commission says ‘affordability checks’ is an inaccurate term for what operators currently do. Casumo can still ask about source of funds where its anti-money-laundering or customer interaction duties require it. The gambling affordability checks explainer separates what is in force from what was only proposed, and source of funds checks explains the separate money-laundering angle.

Your rights during Casumo verification

Verification is compulsory, but it comes with protections. The Gambling Commission’s page on what to do if you can’t withdraw your winnings (opens in a new tab) summarises them.

  • A casino can’t confiscate your balance because you didn’t verify within a set time.
  • It can’t require ID at withdrawal that it could reasonably have requested earlier.
  • You can withdraw without unreasonable delay once checks are satisfied.
  • Your documents are personal data, protected under UK data protection law; see online casino data privacy.
  • If you disagree with how a check is handled, you can complain to Casumo and then to an independent adjudicator.

Our guide on how to complain to Casumo explains the formal process, including the eight weeks a business has to resolve a complaint before you can escalate it.

Once you are verified: Casumo’s offer and an alternative

A verified account can claim Casumo’s welcome offer: new customers aged 18+ who opt in get a 50% bonus up to £100 on a first deposit of at least £20. The bonus must be wagered 10x within 7 days with a £5 maximum bet, and game, play and payment restrictions apply. A £100 deposit, for example, adds a £50 bonus with £500 of wagering. The main Casumo casino page has more on the brand.

If a quick, simple offer matters more, PlayOJO gives new UK customers (18+, not Northern Ireland) 80 free spins on Big Bass Bonanza at 10p each after a first deposit of £10 or more via the offer link; winnings are paid as cash with no wagering, and the offer can’t be combined with others. Our PlayOJO verification page covers its document process.

Verification has to be complete before any bonus can be played, so Casumo’s 50% match up to £100 is shown first; PlayOJO is the closest alternative and publishes a 12-hour verification aim on its help page. 18+, terms apply.

Frequently asked questions

Does Casumo require verification?

Yes, Casumo must verify every UK customer’s age and identity before they can deposit or play, because that has been a Gambling Commission requirement since 7 May 2019. Most people are verified automatically from the details given at sign-up, without uploading anything. Documents are only requested if the electronic check can’t confirm you or if later activity, such as a large withdrawal, calls for extra checks. The age verification rules page explains the legal background and why demo games are included.

How long does Casumo verification take?

Casumo doesn’t publish a target time for document reviews. The electronic check at registration normally completes in moments, and if documents are needed the timing depends largely on how clear they are and how quickly you send them. Casumo’s withdrawal policy says a withdrawal should be approved or denied within three days, and that delays in providing information can extend this. By comparison, PlayOJO says it aims to verify within 12 hours. Our casino verification explained guide sets out typical timings.

What documents does Casumo ask for?

Casumo’s withdrawal policy doesn’t list specific documents, so it will tell you what it needs in its request. UK casinos commonly ask for photo ID such as a passport or driving licence, proof of address such as a recent bank statement or utility bill, and sometimes proof that a payment method is yours. Source of funds evidence, such as payslips, is only requested in particular circumstances. Our casino verification documents guide explains what is usually accepted and how to photograph it.

Why is Casumo asking for ID when I withdraw?

Casumo’s policy allows extra checks on any single withdrawal above about €1,000, or once your total withdrawals pass about €2,000, and sometimes on smaller amounts. These checks relate to anti-money-laundering and fraud duties. UK rules don’t allow a casino to require ID at withdrawal that it could reasonably have asked for earlier, but checks triggered by the payout itself are permitted. Responding quickly keeps delays short. See why do casinos ask for documents for more on the reasons.

Can I play at Casumo before verification?

No, under UK rules you can’t deposit, use a bonus or even play free demo games at Casumo until your age and identity are verified. For most people the check is instant, so this isn’t noticeable. If your details can’t be confirmed electronically, your account will stay unable to deposit until documents are reviewed. This rule replaced the old system, which gave operators 72 hours to complete checks after play had already started. Our free demo games rule page explains the demo side.

Can Casumo keep my winnings if I don’t verify?

No, a UK-licensed casino can’t confiscate your money just because you didn’t verify within a time limit. The Gambling Commission’s guidance says you should be able to withdraw without unreasonable delay once checks are satisfied, and that ID can’t be made a condition of withdrawal if the casino could have asked earlier. Casumo can hold a withdrawal while checks are completed, so the practical answer is to send what is requested promptly. Read can a casino keep your winnings for the full position.

Is it safe to send ID documents to Casumo?

Sending documents to a UK-licensed casino through the channel it specifies is a normal part of verification, and Casumo, as a data controller, must protect them under UK data protection law. Check you are on Casumo’s genuine site or replying to a message in your account, not an unexpected email link. Cover the middle digits of any card and never send a CVV or banking password. If in doubt, email hey@casumo.com directly. Our online casino data privacy guide explains your rights over the data.

Why was my Casumo proof of address rejected?

Proof of address is usually rejected because it is too old, unclear, cropped, or shows a different address or name from your account. Most UK casinos expect a bank statement, utility bill or council tax bill dated within the last three months, showing your full name and address. Screenshots of partial documents and mobile phone bills are sometimes refused. Retake the photo in good light with every corner visible and resend through the channel Casumo gave. Our guide to proof of address for casinos lists what generally works.

Does Casumo run credit checks?

Casumo’s identity check at sign-up commonly uses data held by credit reference agencies, but this is an identity search rather than a credit application, so it shouldn’t affect your credit score. Separately, operators must run a financial vulnerability check of public records once net deposits pass £150 in 30 days. Full credit-reference financial risk assessments were piloted but are not live. Our page on gambling affordability checks explains which checks are actually in force in 2026.

Is PlayOJO verification quicker than Casumo?

PlayOJO publishes a target: its help page says it aims to verify within 12 hours and suggests contacting support if there is no answer within 48 hours. Casumo doesn’t publish an equivalent figure, though its policy says withdrawals are approved or denied within three days. PlayOJO names passport, driving licence, ID card or utility bill as accepted documents and asks for uploads through its tool rather than email. Our PlayOJO verification page gives the full detail.
