PlayOJO verification is the process of confirming you're over 18 and who you say you are, and UK rules require it before you deposit or play. For most people it happens automatically in the background at sign-up; documents are only requested when electronic records don't match. This page explains every type of check, when each one applies and what rules protect you.
Age and identity must be confirmed before you can deposit or gamble at PlayOJO, a rule since 7 May 2019.
Most checks run electronically; if documents are needed, PlayOJO's help page says it aims to verify within 12 hours.
A public-record financial vulnerability check applies once net deposits pass £150 in a rolling 30 days.
Credit-reference financial risk assessments are not live; they were only piloted.
A casino can't keep your money because you verified late.

What PlayOJO verification involves
Every casino licensed in Great Britain, including PlayOJO, has to know who its customers are. In practice PlayOJO verification has up to four layers, and most players only ever meet the first.

The first two are about age and identity; the last two are about money. They're separate processes with separate rules, which is why a fully verified account can still receive a request for financial information later.
PlayOJO age and identity verification at sign-up
Since 7 May 2019 online operators must verify age and identity before a customer can deposit, gamble with their own money or a bonus, or open free-to-play demo games. Before that date casinos had up to 72 hours, which let some people play before they were confirmed. The Commission's announcement of the 2019 rules (opens in a new tab) set out the change.
At minimum PlayOJO must confirm your name, address and date of birth. This is normally done by matching the details you enter against sources such as credit reference agency files and the electoral roll. It's an identity lookup, not an application for credit. Our page on age verification rules and the Commission's own guide to age and ID verification (opens in a new tab) explain the requirement.
Documents PlayOJO may ask for
If the electronic match fails, you'll be asked to upload documents. PlayOJO's help and support page (opens in a new tab), checked on 20 October 2026, names a passport, driving licence, ID card or utility bill, and says to send them through its upload tool rather than by email. The request itself tells you which of these it needs. For context, here is what UK casinos typically ask for at each stage.
Documents UK casinos typically accept for verification
What it proves
Typical documents
Common reasons for rejection
Identity and age
Passport, photocard driving licence, national ID card
Expired, cropped or blurred
Address
Recent utility bill, bank or council tax statement
Too old, wrong address, screenshot of an app
Payment ownership
Photo of debit card with middle digits covered, or e-wallet screenshot
Name not visible or different from account
Source of funds
Payslips, bank statements, savings or inheritance letters
How to complete PlayOJO verification if documents are requested
Read the request carefully so you send exactly what's asked for.
Log in to your PlayOJO account and open the upload tool, which PlayOJO's help page names as the route for documents.
Take clear colour photos or scans; cover the middle digits of any card number.
Upload each document through the upload tool; PlayOJO's help page says not to send them by email.
Keep a note of the date you sent them.
Contact support if you've had no answer within 48 hours, the point at which PlayOJO's help page says to get in touch.
If you're unsure whether a request is genuine, log in directly rather than clicking a link in an email; our guide to casino scams to avoid covers fake document requests.
PlayOJO financial checks: what's live and what isn't
Money-related checks cause more confusion than ID checks, partly because of how they were reported. Here's the position on 20 October 2026.
Financial checks timeline for UK online casinos
Date
What changed
30 August 2024
Financial vulnerability checks introduced at £500 net deposits in a rolling 30 days
28 February 2025
Threshold lowered to £150 net deposits in a rolling 30 days
2024 to 2025
Credit-reference financial risk assessments piloted only
April 2026
Commission update: risk assessments still not live, decision with its Board
The vulnerability check uses public records, such as bankruptcies and county court judgments, and the Commission's licence condition on financial vulnerability checks (opens in a new tab) sets out the £150 trigger. In a worked example, if you deposit £100 and withdraw nothing, then deposit another £60 two weeks later, your net deposits are £160 within 30 days and the check is due. If you'd withdrawn £20 in between, net deposits would be £140 and it wouldn't be triggered yet.
The Commission says the phrase affordability checks is inaccurate, and the credit-reference assessments it piloted are not in force. Our pages on affordability checks and source of funds checks explain the distinction, and why does a casino want my payslips covers the separate anti-money-laundering requests.
How long PlayOJO verification takes
Electronic checks at sign-up usually finish within moments of submitting the form. Document reviews take longer: PlayOJO's help page says it aims to verify within 12 hours, and asks you to contact support if you've had no answer within 48 hours (checked 20 October 2026). Support is available by live chat after login, where PlayOJO says availability depends on your country, or at support@playojo.com. Clear, complete uploads help keep a review inside that window. Our general guide to how long casino verification takes gives typical ranges across UK sites.
Verification and withdrawals are linked: an unanswered request is the most common reason a cash-out waits. See PlayOJO withdrawal time for the full payout process.
Your rights during PlayOJO verification
No confiscation for late verification. A casino can't keep your money because you didn't log in or verify within a time limit.
ID shouldn't be a surprise at withdrawal. If PlayOJO could have asked for proof of age or identity earlier, it can't make it a condition of paying out, except where the law requires a check at that point.
No reverse withdrawals. While a payout is waiting for checks, you can't be offered the chance to cancel it and play the money.
Clear reasons. You're entitled to ask what's needed and why, and to complain if you think a request is unreasonable.
PlayOJO is run by Skill On Net Limited, which holds a Gambling Commission licence under account 39326 and is also licensed by the Malta Gaming Authority. Licensed operators must keep documents securely under data protection law and use them for the stated purposes. Use only PlayOJO's own upload route, cover parts of card numbers you aren't asked to show, and ignore anyone contacting you on social media offering to speed things up. More on this in our casino data privacy guide and why casinos ask for documents.
If PlayOJO verification fails
A failed check usually means a mismatch rather than a problem with you. Common fixes include re-entering your name exactly as on your ID, updating an old address, or sending a newer proof of address. If PlayOJO still can't verify you, it may restrict or close the account; any balance should be returned subject to its terms. See can a casino close your account and casino account restricted for what happens next.
After verification: PlayOJO's welcome offer
Once verified, new UK customers aged 18+ (excluding Northern Ireland) who joined through the designated offer link can make a first deposit of £10 or more and receive 80 free spins on Big Bass Bonanza, each worth 10p. Our PlayOJO welcome bonus terms page has the full conditions.
Verification has to be complete before any deposit or offer can be used. PlayOJO's own welcome offer is listed first; Coral is a second licensed option.

Frequently asked questions
Does PlayOJO need ID to verify my account?
Not always. PlayOJO must confirm your name, address and date of birth before you deposit, but it usually does this electronically against sources such as credit reference agency files and the electoral roll. Documents such as a passport or driving licence are only requested if those records can't match your details. Using your full legal name and current address reduces the chance of a document request. Our casino verification explained guide and can I open a casino account without ID page cover this in more depth.
How long does PlayOJO verification take?
Electronic checks at sign-up normally complete within moments of submitting your details. If documents are needed, PlayOJO's help page says it aims to verify within 12 hours, and that you should contact support if you've had no answer within 48 hours (checked 20 October 2026). Support is available by live chat after login, where PlayOJO says availability depends on your country, or at support@playojo.com. Sending clear, complete documents through the upload tool first time is the best way to keep things moving. See how long does casino verification take and PlayOJO customer service.
Why is PlayOJO asking for documents after I've already played?
Usually because a different check has been triggered. Age and identity are confirmed at sign-up, but later requests often relate to money: a financial vulnerability check once net deposits pass £150 in a rolling 30 days, or source-of-funds questions for larger or unusual spending under anti-money-laundering rules. A new payment method can also prompt an ownership check. These are required of every UK-licensed casino. See source of funds checks and why casinos ask for documents.
Does PlayOJO verification affect my credit score?
The identity check at sign-up is a lookup that confirms who you are, not an application for credit, so it shouldn't affect your credit score in the way a loan application does. The financial vulnerability check uses public records such as bankruptcies and county court judgments. Credit-reference financial risk assessments were only piloted and are not live as of October 2026. If you're worried, you can check your own credit file for free. Our affordability checks page explains what's actually in force.
What proof of address does PlayOJO accept?
PlayOJO's help page names a utility bill as proof of address, alongside a passport, driving licence or ID card for identity (checked 20 October 2026). Upload it through the upload tool rather than by email. Make sure the bill is recent and shows your name and the address on your account exactly; across UK casinos, recent usually means within the last three months, and screenshots of banking apps are sometimes refused. Our proof of address for casinos guide and why do casinos ask for proof of address explain the details.
Can PlayOJO refuse a withdrawal until I'm verified?
PlayOJO can ask for information it legitimately needs, such as anti-money-laundering checks, before releasing a payout. What it can't do is make proof of age or identity a condition of withdrawing if it could have asked for that earlier, unless the law requires a check at that point. It also can't confiscate your money because you didn't verify within a time limit. Verifying early avoids most of these issues. See PlayOJO withdrawal time and can a casino keep your winnings.
What is the £150 check at PlayOJO?
It's the financial vulnerability check that every UK online casino must run once your net deposits pass £150 within a rolling 30 days, a threshold in force since 28 February 2025, down from £500 when the checks began on 30 August 2024. Net deposits means money paid in minus money withdrawn. The check uses public records such as bankruptcies and county court judgments and is normally invisible to you. It isn't an affordability assessment. Our affordability checks page and customer interaction rules explain more.
Can I play demo games at PlayOJO before verifying?
No. Since May 2019 UK-licensed casinos must verify your age before giving you access to free-to-play versions of gambling games, as well as before you deposit or gamble with real money or a bonus. The aim is to stop under-18s practising casino games without checks. Once your account is verified, any demo versions PlayOJO offers become available. Our pages on free-to-play demo rules and the demo play guide explain how demo modes work in the UK.
Is it safe to upload my passport to PlayOJO?
Uploading through PlayOJO's upload tool is the safest route; its help page names that tool, not email, as the way to send documents. The operator, Skill On Net Limited, is licensed by the Gambling Commission under account 39326 and must handle personal data lawfully. Don't send documents to anyone who contacts you on social media. Cover card numbers apart from what's requested, and make sure you're logged in on PlayOJO's genuine site or app. Our casino account security guide and is PlayOJO legit page give further reassurance and warning signs.
What happens if PlayOJO can't verify me?
PlayOJO will normally ask you to correct your details or send more documents first. Common fixes include using your full legal name, updating an old address or providing a newer bill. If verification still fails, PlayOJO may restrict or close the account, and any remaining balance should be handled under its terms and returned where appropriate. If you disagree with the outcome, raise a complaint and, after eight weeks, use the free dispute service. See how to complain to PlayOJO and complaints and ADR.
