PlayOJO deposit limits and safer gambling tools

PlayOJO deposit limits and safer gambling tools let you cap deposits by day, week or month, get time reminders every 15 to 90 minutes, review your play in Safe Mate, freeze the account for 24 hours to six weeks, or self-exclude for at least 180 days. Decreases to a limit apply instantly; increases wait 24 hours. Here is how each tool works and when to use it.

Key takeaways

  • Deposit limits can be daily, weekly and monthly, all three at once; decreases are instant and increases take 24 hours.
  • A freeze lasts 24 hours or one to six weeks and covers only the account you set it on.
  • Self-exclusion keeps the account closed for at least 180 days and covers all known accounts on PlayOJO’s licence.
  • GAMSTOP blocks every UK-licensed online gambling site at once, and the National Gambling Helpline (0808 8020 133) is free and 24/7.

PlayOJO safer gambling tools at a glance

PlayOJO groups its safer gambling tools in the My Account area, and its responsible gaming pages (checked 20 October 2026) describe each one. They range from light-touch prompts, such as a reminder of how long you have been playing, to a full self-exclusion that closes the account for months or years. The table summarises what each tool does and how long it lasts; the sections below explain the detail.

How PlayOJO deposit limits work

A PlayOJO deposit limit caps the total you can deposit in a period. You can set a daily, weekly or monthly limit, or any combination of the three, because PlayOJO treats them as independent. When you hit any one of them, further deposits are blocked until that period ends. Lowering a limit takes effect immediately; raising one only takes effect after 24 hours.

A worked example with three limits

Say you set £20 a day, £50 a week and £150 a month. On Monday you deposit £20 and reach the daily cap, so nothing more goes in until Tuesday. You deposit £20 on Tuesday and £10 on Wednesday, which brings the week to £50, so the weekly cap now blocks deposits until the new week begins even though Thursday’s daily allowance is untouched. Over a month, the £150 cap stops you even if you never hit the weekly limit in a particular week. The tightest limit that applies always wins.

If you decide on Wednesday evening to raise the weekly limit to £80, that change won’t apply until Thursday evening. If you lower it to £30 instead, it applies at once. That one-way delay is deliberate and is required in principle by UK rules; our explainer why do I have to wait to increase my deposit limit? explains the reasoning, and how to set deposit limits covers the general method at any casino.

How to set a deposit limit at PlayOJO step by step

Since 31 October 2025, UK casinos must prompt new customers to set a financial limit before their first deposit, with setting one as the default. If you skipped that prompt, or want to change the figure, the route described on PlayOJO’s help page is short.

  1. Log in to your PlayOJO account on the website or app.
  2. Open My Account and choose Settings.
  3. Select Deposit Limits.
  4. Type an amount for the day, the week, the month, or any combination.
  5. Save the change; a decrease applies immediately.
  6. If you raise a limit later, note that the higher figure only applies after 24 hours.

The Gambling Commission’s announcement of the new deposit limit rules (opens in a new tab) explains the prompt and why decreases must be immediate. Our page on deposit limit rules sets out the dates, including the 30 September 2026 deadline for operators to offer gross deposit limits.

Game Status Reminder and play history at PlayOJO

Time passes quickly on fast games, and a reminder helps you notice it. PlayOJO’s Game Status Reminder sends an alert every 15, 30, 60 or 90 minutes; you choose the interval under My Account. PlayOJO’s help page says you need to log out and back in for the alert to start working, which is easy to miss.

Alongside reminders, play history shows game activity by category, game and date range, and transaction history lists deposits, pending and reversed items, and withdrawals for up to 12 months. Looking at the net figure (deposits minus withdrawals) over a month is one of the clearest ways to see what play is actually costing. Reminders like these are known in the industry as reality checks, explained in our guide to reality checks.

Safe Mate: PlayOJO’s spending and time tracker

Safe Mate is PlayOJO’s safer gambling dashboard, found under My Account, Safer Gambling. According to PlayOJO’s Safe Mate page, it covers the last six months of activity and includes several views.

  • Playing behaviour: time played, deposits, withdrawals and total spend over several periods, compared with players with a similar profile.
  • Self-assessment: you estimate your recent spend and time, then compare your guess with the real figures.
  • Game types: how much you have staked on categories such as slots, roulette and blackjack.
  • Risk score: a daily rating based on financial factors and play patterns such as session length and time of day.
  • Trends: graphs of activity over the last four weeks.
  • Messages: optional browser notifications with personalised safer play tips.

The self-assessment view is the most revealing part for many people: if your estimate is well below the real figure, PlayOJO suggests deposit limits, time alerts or further support. A high risk score directs you to contact PlayOJO’s support team. Safe Mate is a mirror, not a brake; pair it with a limit if the numbers surprise you.

Freezing a PlayOJO account: cooling-off periods

A freeze, which PlayOJO also calls cooling-off, is a short, fixed break. You choose 24 hours or between one and six weeks. During that time you can’t deposit or play, and PlayOJO says it stops marketing to you, although removal from marketing lists can take up to 24 hours. When the period ends, the account opens again.

One limitation matters: PlayOJO says freeze restrictions apply only to the account you place them on. They don’t carry across to other brands run by the same company. If you want a break from all of them, self-exclusion or GAMSTOP is the better tool. Our guides to gambling time-outs and the cooling-off period explain how these breaks work across UK casinos.

Self-exclusion at PlayOJO

Self-exclusion is for when a break of weeks isn’t enough. PlayOJO’s safer gambling page says that after you self-exclude, the account stays closed until you actively ask for it to be reopened, and you can’t make that request within 180 days. If you want a longer fixed period, between one and five years, you contact support after placing the exclusion.

PlayOJO also states that self-exclusion ‘will affect all known accounts you have on the same license’, which covers other brands run by its operator, Skill On Net Limited, where the accounts can be linked to you. UK licence conditions require an operator to refuse service, close accounts and return any balance, and to take you off marketing lists. The Gambling Commission’s self-exclusion guide (opens in a new tab) sets out what businesses must do, and our self-exclusion rules page covers the detail.

Self-excluding from one operator doesn’t block other gambling companies. GAMSTOP, below, covers every UK-licensed online gambling site in one step.

OJO Safeguard, operator limits and the self-assessment test

PlayOJO’s help pages mention three further controls. OJO Safeguard lets you block real-money play from within your account, a quick option when you want to stop immediately. The help page also refers to time and loss limits under Settings; check what your UK account offers, as availability can vary by country. Separately, PlayOJO’s Safer Gambling Team can apply an operator limit to an account based on its own checks.

There is also a short self-assessment test, which PlayOJO says takes under 60 seconds and needs no login. If you answer yes to two or more questions, the site encourages you to seek free, confidential help. The guide to signs of problem gambling covers similar questions in more depth. Operators also have their own duties to step in: under UK customer interaction rules, casinos must look for signs of harm and act on them, and since February 2025 they run a light public-record check when net deposits pass £150 in a rolling 30 days.

UK rules behind PlayOJO’s deposit limits and tools

Several of PlayOJO’s tools exist because UK rules require them. Knowing the rules helps you tell what is PlayOJO’s choice and what is a legal minimum.

Customers who already have limits must be reminded about them at least every six months, and those without limits at least every 12 months. Our safer gambling hub links every related rule and support service.

Beyond PlayOJO: GAMSTOP, bank blocks and blocking software

Casino tools only work inside that casino. For wider protection, three outside options work together. GAMSTOP (opens in a new tab) is the free national scheme that blocks you from every UK-licensed online gambling site for a period you choose between six months and five years; it can’t be cancelled early. Many banks offer a gambling block on debit cards, explained in our guide to bank gambling blocks. Blocking software stops gambling sites loading on your devices, including unlicensed ones GAMSTOP doesn’t reach.

Our step-by-step guide on how to use GAMSTOP covers registration, and gambling blocking software explains the options for phones and computers.

Where to get free gambling support in the UK

You don’t need to be in crisis to talk to someone, and none of these services require you to contact PlayOJO first.

Family members can get support too; our guide for family and friends of problem gamblers explains where to start.

Which PlayOJO safer gambling tool suits which situation

Choosing the right tool is easier when you start from what you want to change. This table matches common situations with the PlayOJO tool and the wider option that goes further.

Frequently asked questions

How do I set a deposit limit on PlayOJO?

Log in, open My Account, choose Settings and then Deposit Limits, enter a daily, weekly or monthly amount (or any combination) and save. PlayOJO’s help page says decreases take effect immediately and increases take 24 hours. Since 31 October 2025, UK casinos must also prompt new customers to set a financial limit before their first deposit, so you may have seen this option at sign-up. Our guide on how to set deposit limits explains how to choose a sensible figure, and deposit limit rules covers the regulation.

How long does it take to increase a PlayOJO deposit limit?

PlayOJO says an increase to a deposit limit takes effect after 24 hours, while a decrease applies straight away. The delay exists so that a decision to spend more is made with a cooler head rather than mid-session, and customer service won’t skip it. If you still want the higher limit after 24 hours, it applies automatically. If you notice you are raising limits often, that is worth pausing on. Our explainer why do I have to wait to increase my deposit limit? covers the reasoning across UK casinos.

What is Safe Mate on PlayOJO?

Safe Mate is PlayOJO’s safer gambling dashboard, found under My Account and Safer Gambling. It shows your time played, deposits, withdrawals and spend over the last six months, compares your activity with similar players, and gives a daily risk score based on spending and play patterns such as session length. A self-assessment lets you compare your own estimates with the real numbers, and trend graphs cover four weeks. PlayOJO says availability depends on your country. For tools that limit play rather than show it, see safer gambling tools compared.

How long can I freeze my PlayOJO account?

PlayOJO’s freeze, or cooling-off period, can be set for 24 hours or for between one and six weeks. During the freeze you can’t deposit or play, and PlayOJO says marketing stops, though removal can take up to 24 hours. The account reopens when the period ends. PlayOJO states that a freeze applies only to the account you set it on, so it doesn’t cover other brands run by the same operator. For longer breaks, see how to take a break from gambling and the glossary entry for cooling-off period.

Can I undo a PlayOJO self-exclusion early?

No. PlayOJO says that once you self-exclude, the account stays closed until you actively request reactivation, and you can’t make that request within 180 days. If you chose a longer period, from one to five years, through support, the exclusion runs for that full period. The minimum is there to give you a real break, and UK rules require operators to refuse service and stop marketing while it lasts. If you also use GAMSTOP, that runs separately and can’t be cancelled early either. See can I cancel GAMSTOP? for more.

Does PlayOJO self-exclusion cover other casinos?

PlayOJO says its self-exclusion affects all known accounts you hold on the same licence, which means other brands run by its operator, Skill On Net Limited, where the accounts can be linked to you. It doesn’t cover casinos run by other companies. To block every UK-licensed online gambling site at once, register with GAMSTOP, which all UK online operators must join under rules in force since 31 March 2020. The how to self-exclude guide compares the two routes, and how long does GAMSTOP last? explains the periods.

Does PlayOJO have reality checks?

Yes, in the form of its Game Status Reminder, which sends an alert every 15, 30, 60 or 90 minutes while you play. You choose the interval under My Account, and PlayOJO’s help page says you need to log out and back in before alerts begin. Reminders don’t stop play; they prompt you to check how long you’ve been at it and whether you want to continue. Combining a reminder with a deposit limit is more effective than either alone. Our guide to reality checks explains how they work across UK casinos.

Will PlayOJO stop sending me offers if I set limits?

Setting a deposit limit doesn’t by itself switch off marketing, but you control marketing separately. Since 1 May 2025, UK casinos must let you opt in by product and channel, with opt-out as the default, so you can turn off casino emails or texts in your account preferences. A freeze or self-exclusion at PlayOJO also stops marketing, and UK rules require operators to stop marketing and new bonus offers where they see strong signs of harm. Our guide to opting out of casino marketing covers the steps.

Is there a loss limit on PlayOJO?

PlayOJO’s help page refers to time, loss and deposit limits under Settings, but its main safer gambling tools page describes deposit limits in detail and doesn’t set out a loss limit, and PlayOJO notes that availability depends on your country. Check the Settings area of your UK account to see what is offered. A deposit limit has a similar effect in practice, because it caps the new money you can put in. For an explanation of how loss limits differ from deposit limits, see the loss limit glossary entry and deposit limit rules.

Where can I get help if I’m worried about my gambling?

The National Gambling Helpline is free, confidential and open 24/7 on 0808 8020 133, with live chat and WhatsApp also available through GamCare. NHS gambling clinics accept self-referrals, and Gamblers Anonymous runs free peer-support meetings. You don’t need to contact PlayOJO first, though its support team can apply restrictions straight away if you ask. GAMSTOP blocks all UK-licensed online gambling sites in one step. Our free gambling support guide lists every service, and how do I stop gambling? sets out first steps.
