PayPal vs debit card for casinos comes down to one trade-off: a debit card qualifies for more welcome offers and, at some UK sites, pays out within hours through Visa Fast Funds, while PayPal keeps your card details away from the casino and can be quicker once a withdrawal is approved. Here is how the two compare, using published partner terms checked on 5 October 2026.
Debit cards qualify for more welcome offers: Coral and Ladbrokes both exclude PayPal deposits from their new-player spins.
Withdrawal speed depends on the casino, not just the method: Casumo pays PayPal instantly after approval, while its card payouts take up to 2 days.
Neither method can be funded by credit: the UK credit card ban (14 April 2020) also covers e-wallets loaded from a credit card.
Closed-loop rules mean you usually withdraw to the method you deposited with, so pick the one you want to be paid to.

PayPal vs debit card for casinos: the short answer
If you want a welcome offer, use a debit card. If you care most about keeping card numbers off casino servers and the casino you use pays PayPal quickly, PayPal is a sound choice for everyday deposits. Both are legal, both are widely accepted at UK-licensed sites, and both draw on money you already have, because gambling on credit has been banned in Great Britain since 14 April 2020.
The details matter more than the brand names. A debit card at one casino can be the slowest way to get paid, while at another it is the fastest. The same goes for PayPal. That is why this comparison uses each partner’s own published times and exclusions rather than general claims, and links to the method guides for PayPal at UK casinos and debit card casino payments if you want the full background on either.

How PayPal and debit card casino payments work
A debit card payment goes straight from your bank account to the casino’s payment processor. You type the long card number, expiry date and security code into the cashier once, confirm with your banking app if asked, and the money usually lands in your balance at once. Visa, Mastercard and Maestro debit cards are all listed in Coral’s and Ladbrokes’ help centres.
PayPal sits in the middle. You log in to PayPal from the casino cashier, approve the payment, and PayPal pays the casino from your linked bank account or debit card. The casino never sees your card number, only that a PayPal account in your name has paid. On the way back, a withdrawal goes into your PayPal balance, and you then move it to your bank yourself.
Why the extra step matters
That middle layer is both PayPal’s strength and its catch. It adds privacy and a second login, but it also means two companies process each payout and two sets of records to check if anything goes wrong. With a card, a delay can only sit with the casino or your bank. With PayPal it can also sit with PayPal, although in practice most hold-ups at any casino happen during the operator’s own approval stage, which is covered in our guide to pending withdrawals.

This table sets out the practical differences. Rows marked ‘varies’ depend on the casino’s own terms, so the cashier and help centre are the final word.

Which is faster for casino withdrawals: PayPal or debit card?
Neither method is faster everywhere. Every payout has two stages: the casino’s internal approval, then the payment provider’s transfer. The method only changes the second stage. Here is what each partner publishes for the second stage.

At Coral and Ladbrokes, Coral’s Visa Fast Funds help page (opens in a new tab) explains that eligible Visa debit cards typically receive money within about four hours once a payout is approved, and that amounts above £2,000 can take longer. If your card doesn’t support Visa Fast Funds, it falls back to a standard card refund, which takes longer.
Worked example: a £150 withdrawal
Coral, Visa debit with Fast Funds: approval typically takes a couple of hours, then up to 4 hours to your bank. A request at 10am would usually be with you the same day.
Casumo, PayPal: Casumo says withdrawals are reviewed within hours and its policy allows up to 3 days for approval. Once approved, the PayPal transfer is instant, then you move it from PayPal to your bank.
Casumo, debit card: same approval stage, then up to 2 days for the card payment.
Whichever you use, a UK casino can’t let you cancel a withdrawal to keep playing; the reverse withdrawal ban has applied since 31 October 2021. For a wider ranking of payout methods, see our fastest withdrawal methods guide.
Welcome bonus eligibility: why PayPal deposits often miss out
This is the biggest practical difference. Two of our five partners name PayPal in the list of deposit methods that don’t qualify for their new-player offer, and none names debit cards in general (Coral excludes ‘certain debit cards’, so check which).

Put a figure on it. Coral’s 100 spins at 10p each are £10 of spins. Deposit with PayPal and you lose that £10 of spins even though your £10 stake is the same. Ladbrokes’ offer is worth up to 500 spins × 10p = £50 of spins over ten days, all lost with a PayPal first deposit. Casinos exclude e-wallets mainly to stop people opening several accounts with the same card hidden behind different wallets; our explainer on why you can’t use PayPal for the bonus covers the reasons, and the full exclusion lists sit on the Coral bonus payment exclusions page.
All offers are for new players aged 18+ and terms apply. Bonus wagering is capped at 10x since 19 January 2026, whichever payment method you use.
Here’s what that fee means. Withdraw £8 from Casumo and £3 goes on the fee, leaving £5, a 37.5% cut. Withdraw £10 or more and the fee disappears. The fee is about the amount, not the method, so it hits PayPal and card payouts alike. Our casino payment fees guide explains where else small charges can appear, including currency conversion.

The two Entain brands also limit UK customers to three active payment methods in a rolling 30 days. If you add PayPal, a debit card and Apple Pay in the same month, that is your allowance used.
Is PayPal or a debit card safer for online casinos?
Both are safe at a UKGC-licensed casino, but they protect you in different ways. PayPal’s advantage is that your card number is never stored by the casino, so a data breach at the operator can’t expose it. A debit card’s advantage is simplicity: one provider, strong authentication through your banking app, and your bank’s fraud team on the case if a payment looks wrong.
Advantages
PayPal: card number stays private from the casino
PayPal: separate login adds a barrier if your casino account is compromised
Debit card: one company to deal with if something goes wrong
Debit card: bank gambling blocks apply directly
Drawbacks
PayPal: another password to protect and another account that can be locked
PayPal: excluded from several welcome offers
Debit card: card details held by every casino you use
Debit card: card replacement means updating every cashier
Disputes work differently too. A card payment can, in limited cases, be challenged through your card issuer, while PayPal uses its own resolution process. Neither is a way to reverse ordinary gambling losses; our guide to chargebacks and casinos explains when a dispute is and isn’t appropriate. Whatever you use, protect the casino login with a strong password, as covered in the casino account security guide.
Credit card ban, bank blocks and keeping spending under control
Since 14 April 2020 no UK-licensed casino may take a credit card payment. The Gambling Commission’s guide to the credit card ban (opens in a new tab) adds that businesses accepting e-wallets such as PayPal should make sure the money wasn’t loaded from a credit card. In practice this means your PayPal wallet needs a debit card or bank account behind it for casino payments; see the e-wallet credit card rule and the main credit card ban page for the detail.
Debit cards also have a control advantage. Most big UK banks now offer a gambling block that stops card payments to gambling merchants, and the Commission keeps a list of banks offering gambling blocks (opens in a new tab). If you rely on a block, ask your bank whether it also stops gambling payments made through PayPal; our page on bank gambling blocks covers how they work.
Since 31 October 2025 casinos must also prompt you to set a financial limit before your first deposit, whichever method you choose. A deposit limit set in the casino account covers every payment method at once, which a bank block alone can’t do.
How to deposit and withdraw with PayPal or a debit card
Depositing with a debit card
Open the cashier and choose Visa, Mastercard or Maestro.
Enter the card number, expiry date and security code; the name must match your casino account.
Type the amount, staying within any limit you set at sign-up.
Approve the payment in your banking app if prompted.
Check the balance has updated before choosing a game.
Withdrawing to PayPal
Make sure you deposited with PayPal recently: Coral and Ladbrokes require a PayPal deposit in the last six months before paying out to PayPal.
Open the cashier, choose Withdraw and select PayPal.
Enter the amount and confirm; it now shows as pending while the casino reviews it.
Once approved, check your PayPal balance, then transfer the money to your bank from PayPal.

A sensible pattern for many people is to sign up and claim any offer with a debit card, then stick with it so withdrawals follow the same route. If you prefer PayPal, choose a casino whose offer allows it or skip the offer altogether; a bonus is never a reason to use a payment method you are unhappy with. Our debit card casino bonus page and PayPal casino bonus page show how the current offers line up.
Where to use PayPal or a debit card: partner casinos compared
Coral, Ladbrokes and Casumo all list both PayPal and debit cards in their cashiers, and a third-party review lists both at 10bet. PlayOJO’s payment methods aren’t verified here, so check its cashier. For more pairings, browse the casino comparisons hub or read Visa Fast Funds vs PayPal.
The offers below are the closest match for this page. Casumo’s 50% bonus up to £100 needs a £20 minimum first deposit and opt-in; wager the bonus 10x within 7 days, with a £5 maximum bet while it’s active, and game, play and payment restrictions apply. Coral’s offer gives 100 free spins at 10p each when you deposit and bet £10 on slots, with PayPal, Neteller, Skrill, Paysafe, prepaid cards and certain debit cards excluded; spins must be accepted within 48 hours and last 7 days. Both are for new players aged 18+, terms apply, and gambling should only ever be paid for from money you can afford to lose.
Neither offer is PayPal-specific. Coral’s 100 free spins exclude PayPal deposits, so a debit card is the route there; Casumo’s 50% match says payment restrictions apply, so check its terms before choosing PayPal. 18+, T&Cs apply.

Frequently asked questions
Is PayPal or a debit card better for online casinos?
A debit card is better if you want a welcome offer, and PayPal is better if privacy matters most to you. PayPal deposits are excluded from the new-player spins at both Coral and Ladbrokes, so a card is the only way to claim those. PayPal keeps your card number away from the casino and, at Casumo, pays out instantly once a withdrawal is approved, compared with up to 2 days for cards. The side-by-side table on this page sets out every other difference, from dispute routes to bank gambling blocks.
Why can’t I use PayPal for a casino welcome bonus?
Many casinos exclude PayPal and other e-wallets from welcome offers to reduce the risk of one person opening several accounts. Because the casino can’t see which card sits behind an e-wallet, it is harder to spot duplicate sign-ups. Both Entain brands list PayPal among the methods that don’t qualify for their spins offers, checked on 5 October 2026. Deposit with an eligible debit card instead, or read the full reasoning in why you can’t use PayPal for the bonus.
How long do PayPal casino withdrawals take in the UK?
PayPal withdrawals are often instant once the casino approves them, but approval itself can take hours or days. Casumo, for example, says PayPal payouts are instant after approval, while its policy allows up to 3 days for the approval decision. Coral and Ladbrokes don’t publish a PayPal-specific time, so check the cashier. After the money reaches PayPal you still need to transfer it to your bank. Our guide to how long casino withdrawals take explains what happens during the approval stage.
How fast are debit card withdrawals at casinos?
Debit card withdrawals range from a few hours to several working days, depending on the casino and the card. At Coral and Ladbrokes, Visa debit cards that support Visa Fast Funds typically receive money within about 4 hours of approval, with approval usually taking a couple of hours. Casumo quotes up to 2 days for cards and 10bet up to 2 business days. Cards that don’t support fast payouts take longer. See Visa Fast Funds explained for how the faster route works.
Can I deposit with PayPal and withdraw to my debit card?
Usually not without extra checks, because UK casinos follow a closed-loop policy that sends money back to the method you deposited with. If you paid in with PayPal, expect the casino to pay out to PayPal first. If you no longer use that wallet, contact support before requesting a withdrawal so they can verify an alternative. Coral and Ladbrokes also require a PayPal deposit in the last six months before paying out to PayPal. Plan ahead by choosing your payout method before the first deposit.
Is it legal to gamble with PayPal in the UK?
Yes, using PayPal at a UK-licensed online casino is legal for adults aged 18 and over. The one restriction is that the money must not come from a credit card, because gambling on credit has been banned in Great Britain since 14 April 2020, and the Gambling Commission expects casinos to check that e-wallet funds weren’t loaded from one. Link a debit card or bank account to PayPal instead. Our page is it legal to use PayPal for gambling covers the rules in more depth.
Do UK casinos charge fees for PayPal or debit card payments?
Most don’t, but a few charge on small withdrawals regardless of method. Coral and Ladbrokes both state that they charge no withdrawal fees. Casumo charges £3 on withdrawals below £10, so an £8 cash-out would arrive as £5; at £10 or more there’s no fee. 10bet doesn’t publish a fee position, so check its cashier. PayPal itself may charge for currency conversion if your account isn’t in pounds. Always read the cashier’s fee note before confirming a small payout.
Does a bank gambling block stop PayPal casino payments?
It depends on your bank and how the payment is routed, so ask your bank directly. A gambling block works on your debit card by stopping payments to gambling merchants. When PayPal pays a casino using money drawn from your card, some banks’ blocks may not see the casino as the end recipient. If you rely on a block for self-control, also set casino deposit limits and consider GAMSTOP. The Commission’s list of banks with blocks is summarised on our bank gambling blocks page.
Which partner casinos accept both PayPal and debit cards?
Coral, Ladbrokes and Casumo all list both PayPal and debit cards for deposits and withdrawals in their own published information. A third-party review lists both at 10bet, though 10bet’s own help centre only names method categories. PlayOJO’s payment methods aren’t verified on this site, so check its cashier before you sign up. Remember that listing a method isn’t the same as it qualifying for a bonus. Partner details are on the Coral payment methods page and Casumo withdrawal time page.
Can I use a PayPal account linked to a credit card at a casino?
No, you shouldn’t, because the credit card ban covers e-wallets funded by a credit card. Since 14 April 2020 UK-licensed casinos have been barred from accepting credit card payments, and the Gambling Commission says businesses taking e-wallet payments should check the money wasn’t loaded from a credit card. If your PayPal account has a credit card set as the default, change it to a debit card or bank account before depositing. The Commission’s consumer guide on credit cards sets out the rule in plain English.
