Auto roulette is live roulette without a croupier: a real wheel launches the ball by machine and reads the result automatically, while you place every bet yourself. It is not autoplay, which has been banned on UK casino games since 17 January 2025. The odds depend on the wheel, so single-zero auto roulette keeps the standard 2.70% house edge.
Auto roulette uses a real, automated wheel; the result is physical, not RNG.
It is not autoplay: you still choose and confirm your bets every round.
Evolution lists European, French and American versions, so check the wheel before betting.
More rounds per hour means a higher expected cost per hour, even at the same edge.

What auto roulette is, and what it is not
An auto roulette table is a physical roulette wheel fitted with a mechanism that fires the ball around the track, and a system that detects which pocket it lands in. There is no croupier on camera. A betting timer opens and closes each round, the wheel spins, the result is read and your bets are settled, all without a human hand. Evolution's description of its Auto Roulette puts it simply: there is no live dealer, and a fully automated precision wheel powers the game.
The name causes confusion. 'Auto' refers to the wheel, not to your bets. Autoplay, a feature that places bets for you over a run of rounds, is a different thing entirely and has been banned at UK-licensed sites for slots since 31 October 2021 and for all online casino games since 17 January 2025. On an auto roulette table you still choose your chips and confirm them every round. Our casino games hub and online roulette UK guide put auto roulette alongside the other formats.
How an auto roulette round works
Open the table from the live casino or roulette section and check the name: European, French or American auto roulette.
Wait for the betting window to open; a countdown shows how long you have.
Place chips on the layout or the racetrack, if the table has one.
Betting closes automatically. On some speed versions, betting is only open while the ball is spinning, so the window is short.
The machine launches the ball, the wheel decides the result and the system reads the winning number.
Winning bets are paid at the table's fixed odds and the result is added to the history panel.
Place new bets for the next round yourself, or use rebet to repeat your last bets with a click.
Because the result comes from a real wheel, auto roulette is classed as a live game rather than an RNG game. The physical equipment, not a random number generator, decides the outcome.
Auto roulette versions at UK casinos
Evolution, which supplies many UK live casinos, lists European, French and American versions of Auto Roulette, along with faster and VIP tables. The wheel type decides the house edge, so read the table name and the help screen before you bet.

What Evolution describes
What it means for you
Auto Roulette
No live dealer; automated precision wheel; European, French and American versions
Same odds as the matching manual wheel
VIP Auto Roulette
60–80 rounds per hour
Higher stakes and a fast, steady pace
Speed Auto Roulette
About 2,500 games per day; betting only during the spin
Short betting windows and many rounds per hour
Instant Roulette
Twelve synchronised automated wheels spinning almost constantly; rebet starts the next round
Very fast play; the edge adds up quickly
Lightning Roulette
Ball spun by an auto roulette wheel, with a presenter
Automated launch plus multipliers; see the Lightning page
The automation does not change the maths. An auto table pays the same odds as any table with the same wheel: 35 to 1 on a single number, 2 to 1 on a dozen, 1 to 1 on red or black. The house edge comes from the zero pockets.

Why auto roulette speed changes your cost per hour
With no croupier to take bets, chat or announce results, an automated wheel can run a steady, quick cycle. Evolution quotes 60 to 80 rounds per hour on its VIP auto tables, and about 2,500 games a day on Speed Auto Roulette, which works out at roughly one round every 35 seconds. The edge per bet is unchanged, but more bets per hour means more money staked per hour, and the house edge is a share of everything staked.

That is why time limits matter as much as stake limits. A reality check pop-up, or a firm finishing time, keeps an hour of auto roulette from turning into three. Our guide to online table game speed rules explains how the UK regulates pace for software games.
Auto roulette and the UK autoplay ban
The Gambling Commission's technical standards require each game cycle to be started individually by the player. That rule, known as RTS 8C, covered slots from 31 October 2021 and was extended to all online gaming products from 17 January 2025, as recorded in the Commission's summer 2023 consultation response (opens in a new tab). Auto roulette fits within it: the wheel runs on its own schedule, but you only take part in a round when you place and confirm a bet.
Some suppliers' international game pages mention autoplay or similar features. Those are not offered to players at UK-licensed casinos. A rebet or 'repeat' button is different, because it does nothing until you press it. The autoplay ban page has the full history, and the game design rules page lists the other requirements, such as showing your net position and session time.
Auto roulette pros and cons

Results come from a real wheel you can watch
Steady pace with no waiting for a croupier
Available on single-zero wheels with the standard 2.70% edge
Drawbacks

Faster rounds raise the expected cost per hour
Short betting windows on speed versions leave little thinking time
Some tables use a double-zero wheel with a 5.26% edge
If you want a slower, more social game, a dealer-run table may suit you better; our guide on how to play live roulette covers those. For a broader comparison of formats, see live vs RNG casino games.
Auto roulette myths: machines, sectors and systems
'A machine-launched ball lands in the same section every time.' Launch speed and ball behaviour vary from spin to spin, and licensed live games must meet the Commission's technical standards. Each pocket is equally likely.
'You can time your bets to the launch.' Betting closes before the result is known, and on speed tables only while the ball is moving.
'Fast tables let you recover losses quicker.' They also let you lose more quickly; the edge is the same per bet.
Since 31 October 2025, UK casinos must prompt you to set a financial limit before your first deposit, and lowering it applies straight away. Pair a deposit limit with a time limit, especially on fast tables. If you need a longer break, GAMSTOP blocks you from every GB-licensed gambling site, and free 24/7 support is available on the National Gambling Helpline, 0808 8020 133, run by GamCare (opens in a new tab). Frequently asked questions
What is auto roulette?
Auto roulette is a live roulette game played on a real wheel that launches the ball by machine, with no croupier. The system reads the winning number and settles bets automatically, and you place each round's bets yourself. It comes in single-zero and double-zero versions, so the house edge is 2.70% or 5.26% depending on the wheel. It is popular for its steady pace. Our online roulette UK guide compares it with other formats.
Is auto roulette the same as autoplay?
No, auto roulette and autoplay are different. Auto roulette automates the wheel, while autoplay would place your bets automatically over many rounds. Autoplay has been banned on all online casino games at UK-licensed sites since 17 January 2025, so you must start each round yourself. A rebet button is allowed because it only repeats your bet when you press it. The autoplay ban page explains the rule and its dates.
Is auto roulette rigged?
Auto roulette at a UK-licensed casino is not rigged. The result comes from a physical wheel, and games supplied to licensed casinos must meet the Commission's technical and testing standards. The game still has a house edge from the zero pocket, which means players lose on average over time. If you believe a result was recorded wrongly, raise it with the casino and then with an independent ADR service. Our page on how casino games are tested explains the checks.
How fast is auto roulette?
Without a croupier, rounds tend to run faster than at dealer-run tables because no croupier has to take bets or announce results. Evolution quotes 60 to 80 rounds per hour on its VIP auto tables and about 2,500 games per day on Speed Auto Roulette, roughly one round every 35 seconds. Faster play raises your expected cost per hour, because the house edge applies to every bet. Setting reality checks helps you track time.
What are the odds in auto roulette?
The odds in auto roulette are the same as on a manual table with the same wheel. On a single-zero wheel a straight-up bet wins 1 time in 37 and pays 35 to 1, and red or black wins 18 times in 37 and pays 1 to 1. The house edge is 2.70%. On a double-zero wheel the edge rises to 5.26%. See roulette odds and payouts for every bet.
Is auto roulette live or RNG?
It is a live game: the result is decided by a physical wheel and ball, filmed and streamed to your screen. Only the ball launch and number reading are automated. That makes it different from RNG roulette, where software picks the result and an animation shows it. UK rules on autoplay, age checks and net position display apply to both. Our comparison of live vs RNG casino games sets out the other differences.
Can I play auto roulette on my phone?
Yes, auto roulette tables are generally available on mobile through a casino's website or app, alongside other live games. The stream and betting layout are resized for a smaller screen. Short betting windows on speed versions can be harder to manage on a phone, so take care with chip placement. Our guide on whether you can play casino games on your phone covers data use and apps.
Does auto roulette have a racetrack for call bets?
Many single-zero auto roulette tables include a racetrack for call bets such as voisins du zéro, tiers du cylindre and orphelins. These cover sections of the wheel using bundles of inside bets, each with the standard 2.70% edge. Whether a given table shows the racetrack depends on the game, so check the layout or help screen. Our roulette bets explained page describes every call bet and how many chips it uses.
What is the minimum bet on auto roulette?
The minimum bet on auto roulette depends on the table and the casino, and is shown on the table card in the lobby. VIP versions are designed for higher stakes than standard tables. There is no legal minimum or maximum for roulette in the UK; the £5 and £2 caps introduced in 2025 apply only to online slots. Our guide to casino table limits explains minimums, maximums and per-bet limits.
Can I use a bonus on auto roulette?
You may be able to, but many casino bonuses exclude roulette or count only part of each roulette stake towards wagering. Spin offers are for slots and cannot be used at a roulette table. Since 19 January 2026, UK bonuses cannot require more than 10x wagering, which helps, but the game restrictions still apply. Always read the terms before opting in. Our page on why some games are excluded from bonuses explains the reasons.
