A cashback casino bonus gives back a percentage of what you lose, or sometimes of what you stake, over a set period, paid as cash or as bonus funds. None of our five partners offered cashback as its welcome deal when checked on 5 October 2026; the closest is PlayOJO's OJOplus, which pays money back on every game played. Here is how cashback maths really works. 18+, terms apply.
Cashback refunds part of a loss; it never turns a losing session into a winning one.
No partner welcome offer was a cashback deal on 5 October 2026; PlayOJO's OJOplus feature pays money back on every game played.
Cashback paid as cash has no wagering; cashback paid as bonus funds can carry no more than 10x wagering since 19 January 2026.
Check whether cashback is based on net losses or on stakes, the period it covers and any cap, before you judge its value.

What a cashback casino bonus is
Cashback is a promotion that returns part of your losses, or a small share of everything you stake, after the fact. A typical offer names a percentage, a period such as a day or a week, a cap on how much can come back, and the form the money takes. The key difference from a deposit match or free spins is timing: you only receive cashback after money has been lost or staked.
That makes it the easiest bonus to misunderstand. Getting 10% back on a £50 loss still leaves you £45 down. Cashback reduces the cost of play; it does not create a profit. Our guide to how casino promotions work places it alongside the other types, and the dated list of current deals is on our offers hub.

Common cashback formats
Format
Based on
How it usually pays
Where you see it
Losses-based cashback
Net losses over a period
Cash or bonus funds after the period ends
Welcome deals, weekly promotions
Stake-based rebate
A share of every stake, win or lose
Small amounts credited as you play
Standing features such as PlayOJO's OJOplus
First-session refund
Losses in a first day or first session
Usually bonus funds, capped
Some welcome offers
Loyalty or VIP cashback
Losses or stakes, often tiered
Cash or bonus, rate varies by tier
Loyalty schemes
The difference between the first two matters most. Losses-based cashback pays nothing if you finish a period ahead, and more the more you lose. A stake-based rebate pays a small amount on every bet regardless of the result. See casino loyalty programmes and loyalty points for the reward schemes behind many rebates.
Cashback casino bonus offers at our partners in October 2026
We checked all five partner welcome offers on 5 October 2026. None was a cashback deal: two are deposit matches (Casumo and 10bet) and three are spins offers (Coral, Ladbrokes and PlayOJO). PlayOJO stands out because its signature feature, OJOplus, pays money back on every game played, which is a stake-based rebate rather than a welcome bonus. We don't quote its rate here because we haven't verified a current figure; PlayOJO's own site states it.
The figures below use hypothetical cashback rates to show the method. They are illustrations, not partner offers.
Example 1: 10% losses-based cashback paid in cash
You deposit £50 and finish the week with nothing left, so your net loss is £50. At 10%, £5 comes back as cash you can withdraw. Your total cost is £45. Had you finished the week £20 ahead, you would get nothing, because there was no loss to refund.
Example 2: the same cashback paid as bonus funds with 10x wagering
The £5 now arrives as a bonus that must be wagered 10 times, so £50 of play. On a slot with a 96% RTP, £50 of play costs about £2 on average. The cashback is worth about £3 on average rather than £5, and with variance it could be worth more or nothing.
Example 3: a 1% stake-based rebate
You stake £200 in total on 10p to £1 spins during a session. A 1% rebate returns £2 whatever happens. On a 96% slot, £200 of stakes costs about £8 on average, so the rebate trims the expected cost to about £6.
Definitions vary, so read the clause. The most common version is total stakes minus total winnings over the qualifying period, on the qualifying games only. Others use deposits minus withdrawals minus the closing balance. Two players with the same deposits can end up with different cashback depending on which formula applies.
Qualifying games: some offers count only slots; others exclude live casino or jackpot games.
Bonus play: losses made with bonus money are often excluded.
Period: daily, weekly or a first-session window, with a fixed cut-off time.
Cap: a maximum refund, for example £50, however large the loss.
Minimum: a small loss may be below the threshold and earn nothing.
Cashback is treated as an incentive like any other, so the Commission's bonus code applies in full. The social responsibility code on rewards and bonuses (opens in a new tab) requires clear, fair terms and has capped wagering at 10 times since 19 January 2026. From the same date, one incentive can't mix casino with betting or bingo, so a scheme refunding casino losses based on sports bets is not allowed. See the 10x wagering cap and the mixed-product promotions ban.
VIP cashback
Cashback is a common VIP perk, and VIP schemes have had tighter rules since 31 October 2020. Before treating someone as a high-value customer, operators must confirm the spending is affordable and sustainable, check for signs of harm, and have a senior licensed manager oversee the scheme, as the Commission's VIP rules announcement (opens in a new tab) set out. Our pages on VIP scheme rules and casino VIP schemes explain more.
Harm checks
Under the Commission's customer interaction rules, operators must stop marketing and new bonus take-up when there are strong indicators of harm. A casino may therefore withhold a cashback offer from an account showing those signs. See customer interaction rules.

How to judge a cashback casino bonus in six steps
Find the basis: net losses, stakes or deposits, and over what period.
Note the percentage and the cap, then work out the most you could receive.
Check how it is paid: cash, or bonus funds with wagering of 10x or less.
List the qualifying and excluded games, and whether bonus play counts.
Check the claim process: automatic, opt-in or by request, and any deadline.
Decide your budget first and treat any cashback as a small refund, never as a reason to play more.
Cashback and chasing losses
Losses-based cashback has an awkward feature: the more you lose, the more comes back. That can make a bigger loss feel smaller in the moment and encourage one more deposit to 'use' the refund. Losses are the likely outcome over time because of the house edge, and no refund changes that. If you notice yourself chasing, set a lower deposit limit, take a time-out, or speak to the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133. GamCare (opens in a new tab) also offers free chat and WhatsApp support. It is also worth reading about the gambler's fallacy and the signs of problem gambling.

Frequently asked questions
How does a cashback casino bonus work?
A cashback bonus returns a percentage of your losses, or of your stakes, over a set period. For example, 10% weekly cashback on net losses would return £5 if you lost £50 that week, and nothing if you finished ahead. The refund is paid as cash or as bonus funds, and if it is bonus money, wagering at a UK-licensed casino can be no more than 10 times since 19 January 2026. Most offers cap the refund. The answers on how casino bonuses work and how wagering requirements work explain the details.
Which UK casinos offer cashback?
Among our five partners, none had a cashback welcome offer when we checked on 5 October 2026. PlayOJO's signature OJOplus feature pays money back on every game played, which is the closest thing to cashback among them; check PlayOJO's site for the current rate. Other licensed casinos run cashback as weekly promotions or loyalty rewards. Whichever casino you use, confirm its licence on the Gambling Commission register and read the full terms. See the PlayOJO review and our guide to checking a casino licence.
Is cashback better than free spins?
It depends on how you play. Free spins give their value up front, for example Coral's 100 spins at 10p are £10 of play after a £10 slots stake, with winnings paid as cash. Cashback only pays after you have lost or staked money, and losses-based cashback pays nothing if you finish ahead. If you would have spent the money anyway, cashback trims the cost a little. If you want a fixed amount of extra play, spins are simpler. Neither changes the house edge. Compare them on free spins vs cashback and read are free spins worth it.
Does cashback have wagering requirements?
Only if it is paid as bonus funds. Cashback paid as cash has no wagering and can be withdrawn straight away. Cashback paid as a bonus can carry wagering of up to 10 times at a UK-licensed casino since 19 January 2026, so £5 of bonus cashback could need up to £50 of play before withdrawal. On a 96% slot, that £50 of play costs about £2 on average, so the bonus is worth less than its face value. See the 10x wagering cap and our wagering calculator.
What is PlayOJO's OJOplus?
OJOplus is PlayOJO's signature feature, which pays money back on every game played. That makes it work like a stake-based rebate rather than a losses-based cashback, because it is linked to play rather than to how much you lose. We haven't verified a current rate, so check PlayOJO's own site for the figure and any game exclusions. It sits alongside PlayOJO's welcome offer of 80 spins at 10p on Big Bass Bonanza for a first deposit of £10 or more, with no wagering. See the PlayOJO page and PlayOJO promotions.
How is net loss calculated for cashback?
Usually as total stakes minus total winnings over the qualifying period, on qualifying games only, though some casinos use deposits minus withdrawals minus your closing balance. The choice changes the refund: if you deposit £50, withdraw £30 part-way through and finish with nothing, a deposits-based formula shows a £20 net loss, while a stakes-based one depends on every bet you placed. Bonus-money play is often excluded, and there is usually a cap and a minimum. Read the definition in the offer's terms before relying on it. Our guides to reading bonus terms and casino terms and conditions help.
Is cashback a way to win money at a casino?
No. Cashback returns part of what you have lost or staked, so it reduces the cost of play rather than producing a profit. With a 10% losses-based refund, a £50 loss still costs you £45. Over time the house edge means players lose more than they win on average, and no cashback rate changes that. Treat gambling as paid entertainment with a budget you can afford to lose. Our answers to can you win money at online casinos and how online casinos make money explain why.
Are VIP cashback schemes allowed in the UK?
Yes, but with tighter rules since 31 October 2020. Before treating anyone as a VIP or high-value customer, operators must confirm their spending is affordable and sustainable, check for signs of harm, hold up-to-date identity and source-of-funds information, and have a senior manager with a personal licence oversee the scheme. Any cashback paid as bonus funds is also subject to the 10x wagering cap since 19 January 2026. Casinos must stop new bonus take-up when there are strong indicators of harm. See VIP scheme rules and casino VIP schemes.
Can a casino refuse to give me cashback?
Yes, in some situations. Offer terms usually set eligibility, qualifying games, caps and deadlines, and missing any of these can mean no refund. Under UK customer interaction rules, operators must also stop marketing and new bonus take-up where there are strong signs of gambling harm, which can include cashback offers. If you think a casino has applied its terms unfairly, complain to it first; if it isn't resolved within 8 weeks, you can take it to an approved dispute resolution service. See how to complain about a casino and what is a fair casino bonus.
