Casino welcome offer checklist

This casino welcome offer checklist gives you 12 checks to run before claiming any UK sign-up bonus, from the licence and the payment method to the wagering, expiry dates and maximum bet. Each check is explained with pound examples, and at the end we apply the whole list to three real offers checked on 5 October 2026.

Key takeaways

  • Check the payment method first: several UK welcome offers exclude PayPal, Skrill, Neteller, Paysafe and prepaid cards.
  • Any bonus funds must carry 10x wagering or less since 19 January 2026; spins with no wagering pay winnings as cash.
  • Note every clock: claim windows, spin validity and the time limit on wagering are often different.
  • Decide your budget and set a deposit limit before the first deposit; casinos have had to prompt you to do this since 31 October 2025.

Checks 1–2: licence and eligibility before you sign up

Start with the operator, not the offer. Search the brand or domain on the Gambling Commission’s public register (opens in a new tab) and confirm the licence is active. Our guide on how to check a casino licence shows what each part of an entry means.

Eligibility clauses are easy to miss. Welcome offers are almost always for new customers only, and some exclude regions: PlayOJO’s welcome offer, for example, is for new UK customers excluding Northern Ireland. Where two brands share an owner, holding an account at one can affect a welcome offer at the other. Coral and Ladbrokes are both run by LC International Limited, so read the terms of both before assuming you qualify; the Coral vs Ladbrokes comparison sets out how closely they are linked.

Checks 3–5: payment method, qualifying deposit and opt-in

The payment method is the most common reason a welcome offer fails to arrive. Some UK offers exclude e-wallets and prepaid options entirely. Coral’s current offer, for example, lists Neteller, PayPal, Paysafe, Skrill, prepaid cards and certain debit cards as not qualifying. If you plan to deposit by e-wallet, check this clause before anything else, and see why you can’t always use PayPal for a bonus.

Next, note whether you need only to deposit, or to deposit and then stake. “Deposit £10” and “deposit and bet £10 on slots” are different: the second means the £10 must be played before the bonus is credited. Finally, look for an opt-in. Casumo’s welcome bonus requires you to opt in; missing that step means the bonus never attaches. Our qualifying deposit and opt-in glossary entries cover both terms.

Checks 6–7: what the welcome bonus is worth and its wagering

Convert every headline into pounds. For spins, multiply the number of spins by the value of each spin. For a deposit match, multiply your deposit by the percentage, up to the cap.

Turning headlines into pound values
HeadlineCalculationFace value
100 spins at 10p100 × £0.10£10
80 spins at 10p80 × £0.10£8
50% up to £100, deposit £60£60 × 50%£30 bonus
50% up to £100, deposit £200£200 × 50%£100 bonus (cap reached)
100% up to £25, deposit £25£25 × 100%£25 bonus

Then look at wagering. Since 19 January 2026, the 10x wagering cap, announced in the Commission’s notice that gambling promotions are to be safer and simpler (opens in a new tab), means bonus funds can require no more than ten times their value in play. A £30 bonus at 10x needs £300 of bets; a £100 bonus needs £1,000. Spins with no wagering pay any winnings as withdrawable cash, which is why no-wagering free spins are simpler to judge. For the maths in full, use our wagering calculator.

Check 8: every clock in a welcome offer

Many offers run several clocks at once. Missing any of them can mean losing the bonus, so write the dates down when you claim.

  • Claim window: how long you have to accept the bonus once it is offered. Coral gives 48 hours to accept its spins.
  • Validity: how long the spins or bonus last once accepted. Coral’s spins are valid for 7 days.
  • Wagering deadline: how long you have to complete the playthrough. Casumo allows 7 days; 10bet allows 3 days.
  • Daily cut-offs: offers paid in instalments may need claiming each day, such as Ladbrokes’ spins, which must be claimed before 23:59 each day.

A short wagering deadline changes the value. Wagering £1,000 in 7 days means averaging about £143 of bets a day. If that is more than you would normally play, the offer is pushing you to play more than you planned, which is a good reason to skip it. More on deadlines in bonus expiry explained.

Checks 9–11: eligible games, maximum bet and winnings caps

Spins offers name specific slots. PlayOJO’s welcome spins are on Big Bass Bonanza; Coral’s are on selected games. Bonus funds may be restricted from some games or count at a reduced rate, a practice explained in game weighting.

A maximum bet rule limits each stake while a bonus is active. Casumo’s is £5 per bet. Breaking it can void bonus winnings, as our max bet rule guide explains. Separately, the legal £5 slot stake limit applies to players aged 25 and over, and £2 to those aged 18–24, whether or not a bonus is in play.

Some offers cap what you can win from the bonus. 10bet’s welcome bonus, for example, has maximum bonus winnings of £1,000. Spins offers may cap winnings too, so look for a max win or maximum cash-out clause.

Check 12: withdrawing your own money during a welcome bonus

Your deposit is your money. Find out what happens if you withdraw before finishing the wagering: usually the bonus and any bonus winnings are removed, while your remaining cash balance can be withdrawn. Read this clause alongside the casino’s withdrawal policy. Since 31 October 2021, casinos cannot let you reverse a withdrawal to keep playing, and the Gambling Commission says you should be able to withdraw without unreasonable delay. Our guide to voided winnings covers the situations where bonus winnings can lawfully be removed.

Reading across the rows, the two spins offers are cheaper to judge: you know the exact face value and there is no wagering. Casumo’s match carries more value at higher deposits but asks for playthrough within a week. Neither type is better for everyone; free spins vs deposit bonus goes deeper.

Red flags a welcome offer checklist should catch

Warning signs in welcome offer terms
Red flagWhy it matters
Wagering above 10x on bonus fundsNot allowed for UK-licensed operators since 19 January 2026
Casino and sports betting in one offerMixed-product offers are banned since the same date
Terms you cannot find before depositingTerms must be clear and readily accessible
“Free” used with no condition nearbySignificant conditions must appear in the ad itself
Offer only via a site not on the registerMay be an unlicensed operator
Rewards that grow the longer you keep playingTime-based changes to incentives are no longer allowed

If an offer fails any of these, do not claim it. The ASA’s guidance on significant conditions in promotional terms (opens in a new tab) explains what an advert must show up front. Our guide to spotting an outdated offer shows how old terms linger on third-party sites.

How to claim a welcome offer once it passes the checklist

  1. Open the offer through the casino’s own site or the designated offer link the terms specify.
  2. Register with your real name, address and date of birth; the casino must verify your age and identity before you can deposit.
  3. Choose your marketing preferences; every option should start switched off.
  4. Set a deposit limit when prompted, then tick any opt-in box the offer requires.
  5. Deposit with a qualifying method and, if needed, place the qualifying stake on eligible games.
  6. Accept the bonus or spins within the claim window and note the validity and wagering deadlines.
  7. Play within your budget and stop when you reach it, whether or not the wagering is finished.

Common slips are listed in casino welcome bonus mistakes, and all current welcome deals are compared on latest welcome offers.

Frequently asked questions

What should I check first in a casino welcome offer?

Check the licence and the payment method first, because they are the two things that most often go wrong. Confirm the brand appears with an active licence on the Gambling Commission’s public register, then read the payment clause: several UK welcome offers exclude PayPal, Skrill, Neteller, Paysafe or prepaid cards. Only after that is it worth working out the value and wagering. Coral’s current offer, for instance, excludes several e-wallets and certain debit cards. Our page on bonus payment exclusions at Coral lists them in full.

What is a good wagering requirement for a welcome bonus?

Lower is better, and since 19 January 2026 nothing above 10x on bonus funds is allowed at UK-licensed casinos. No wagering at all, as on PlayOJO’s and Coral’s spins winnings, is the simplest. For a match bonus, 10x on the bonus is now the ceiling: a £50 bonus needs at most £500 of bets. Also check whether the wagering applies to the bonus only or to deposit plus bonus, and how long you have. Our explainer on what a fair wagering requirement is compares typical figures.

Do I need a promo code for a UK welcome offer?

Usually not; none of our five partners needs a promo code for its current welcome offer. Some brands do ask for an opt-in instead, such as Casumo, where ticking the bonus option is required, or 10bet, where you choose the casino welcome bonus at sign-up. PlayOJO’s offer only applies through its designated offer link. If a site claims a special code is needed, compare it with the casino’s own terms before relying on it. Our page on casino bonus codes explains how codes are used now.

Can I claim welcome offers at Coral and Ladbrokes?

Possibly not, because both brands are run by LC International Limited, part of Entain. Operators in the same group can restrict welcome offers to customers who are new to the group rather than just new to one brand. The current terms for each offer are the only reliable guide, so read both before signing up and ask support if the wording is unclear. Each offer also requires you to be 18+ and new to that brand. The Coral vs Ladbrokes comparison explains how the two sites are linked.

Why has my welcome bonus not appeared?

The most common reasons are an excluded payment method, a missed opt-in, a qualifying stake not yet placed on eligible games, or a claim window that has closed. Check the offer terms against what you did, step by step. If you deposited with PayPal at a site that excludes it, the bonus will not be added. Some offers also need you to accept spins within a set time, such as Coral’s 48 hours. Contact support with your deposit details if everything matches. See why free spins did not appear for more causes.

Is a bigger welcome bonus always better?

No, a larger headline often comes with more wagering to complete and a bigger deposit to make. A 50% bonus up to £100 needs a £200 deposit to reach the cap, then £1,000 of wagering within the time limit. Eighty spins at 10p with no wagering are worth £8 at face value, with any winnings paid in cash. Which suits you depends on how much you planned to spend anyway. If a bonus tempts you to deposit more than your budget, it is poor value for you. Our bonus value guide shows the maths.

Can I withdraw my deposit before finishing the wagering?

In most cases yes, but you will usually lose the bonus and any winnings made with it. Your deposited cash belongs to you, and the Gambling Commission says you should be able to withdraw without unreasonable delay. Terms normally state that withdrawing before wagering is complete cancels the bonus. Read that clause before you claim, so you know what you are giving up. Casinos also cannot let you reverse a withdrawal to keep playing, a ban in force since 31 October 2021. More in can I withdraw a casino bonus?.

What does a maximum bet rule mean in a welcome offer?

It caps how much you can stake per spin or hand while bonus funds are active. Casumo’s welcome bonus, for example, has a £5 maximum bet. If you exceed it, the casino may remove the bonus and any winnings made with it. The rule is separate from the legal slot stake limits, which are £5 per spin for players aged 25 and over and £2 for those aged 18–24. Spins offers usually fix the stake for you, often at 10p. Our max bet rule guide has examples.

Are welcome offers available in Northern Ireland?

Some are not. PlayOJO’s current welcome offer, for example, is open to new UK customers excluding Northern Ireland. The Gambling Act 2005 covers Great Britain, and Northern Ireland has its own legislation without a full online gambling framework, so operators sometimes treat it differently. Always read the eligibility clause, which names any excluded areas. If you live in Northern Ireland, check each offer’s terms before signing up. Our page can I play UK casinos in Northern Ireland? explains the legal position.

Should I set a deposit limit before claiming a welcome offer?

Yes, and UK casinos must now prompt you to. Since 31 October 2025, operators have had to ask customers to set a financial limit before their first deposit, with setting one as the default and opting out needing confirmation. Choose an amount you are comfortable losing, because losses are likely over time and a bonus does not change the house edge. Lowering a limit takes effect immediately, while increases usually involve a wait. Our guide to setting deposit limits walks through the screens.
