Online craps UK guide

This online craps UK guide covers the same two-dice game you would find in a casino pit: a come-out roll, a point, and dozens of bets ranging from the near-even Pass line to long-shot propositions. This guide explains each stage, gives the house edge of every main bet and shows which UK rules apply, as checked on 20 October 2026.

Key takeaways

  • Pass line (1.41%) and Don’t Pass (1.36%) are the core bets; the odds bet placed behind them has no house edge.
  • Place 6 or 8 costs 1.52%; most one-roll proposition bets cost 11% to 17%.
  • A round can last many rolls, so a single Pass bet may stay on the table for several minutes.
  • Partner free spins can’t be used on craps; check bonus game restrictions. 18+, terms apply.

Online craps in the UK at a glance

Craps is a dice game in which the shooter rolls two dice and everyone bets on the outcome of that roll or a sequence of rolls. In Britain it is less familiar than roulette or blackjack, so many players first meet it online. Online craps comes in three formats: RNG tables run by software, live studio tables with a real dealer and dice, and First Person versions that mix the two.

The reputation for complexity comes from the busy table layout. In practice, you can play a full game using only one or two bets. The Wizard of Odds craps guide (opens in a new tab) lists the edges of more exotic wagers, but the essentials below cover nearly everything you will see at a UK online table.

Two-dice odds: the foundation of every craps bet

Two dice can fall in 36 equally likely ways. Seven is the most common total because six combinations make it; 2 and 12 are rarest with one each. Every payout in craps is measured against this table.

How a round of craps works

  1. Place a Pass line or Don’t Pass bet before the first roll of a round, called the come-out roll.
  2. On the come-out, 7 or 11 wins for Pass; 2, 3 or 12 loses. For Don’t Pass, 2 or 3 wins, 12 is a push, and 7 or 11 loses.
  3. Any other total (4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10) becomes the point, and a marker shows it on the table.
  4. The shooter keeps rolling. If the point is rolled again before a 7, Pass wins and Don’t Pass loses.
  5. If a 7 arrives first, Pass loses and Don’t Pass wins. This is the “seven-out” and ends the round.
  6. A new come-out roll starts the next round. Bets other than Pass and Don’t Pass can be made between rolls.

Online, each roll is a separate game cycle that you start or that the live dealer runs. A single round can last one roll or twenty, so time a session by rolls and minutes rather than rounds.

The best bets in online craps

Pass line and Don’t Pass

Pass wins 244 rounds in 495 on average, which sets its edge at 1.41%. Don’t Pass is a fraction cheaper at 1.36% because the 12 on the come-out is a push rather than a win. Some players dislike betting against the shooter at a live table, but online it makes no social difference.

Free odds: the only bet with no house edge

Once a point is set, you can add an odds bet behind your Pass or Don’t Pass stake. It pays at true odds: 2 to 1 on 4 or 10, 3 to 2 on 5 or 9 and 6 to 5 on 6 or 8. Because the payout matches the real probability, the casino has no edge on that portion. Adding odds lowers the average edge on your total money at risk; with double odds behind Pass, it falls to about 0.61%. It also raises the amount you have on the table, so your spend per round goes up.

Come and Don’t Come

These work exactly like Pass and Don’t Pass but can be placed after a point is set, treating the next roll as a personal come-out. The edges are the same: 1.41% and 1.36%.

Payouts can vary. If your table pays 3 to 1 on 12 in the Field, its edge drops to 2.78%; if a proposition pays “for 1” rather than “to 1”, the edge is higher. The game’s help screen is the final word.

Why proposition bets cost so much

The centre of the table holds one-roll and hardway bets with big payouts. They look generous, but the gap between the payout and the true odds is wide. Any seven wins 1 roll in 6, so a fair payout would be 5 to 1; the table pays 4 to 1. That one-unit gap costs you 16.67p per £1 staked on average, compared with 1.41p on the Pass line.

Worked example over 100 bets of £5 (£500 staked): expected cost on the Pass line is about £7; on Place 6 about £7.60; on the Field about £27.80; on Any seven about £83. Same money, very different price. Our best odds casino games guide puts these figures alongside blackjack and baccarat.

Live craps vs RNG craps online

Evolution runs a Live Craps studio with an optional Easy Mode that shows a simplified set of bets, plus a built-in tutorial, according to its game listings. It also lists First Person Craps, an RNG version with live-style graphics.

Craps systems and myths

Craps has more folklore than most games: hot shooters, dice setting, the “iron cross” and many staking schemes. Online, dice setting is irrelevant because you don’t throw anything, and no staking plan alters the edge of the bets it uses.

  • Iron cross. Combines Field and Place bets so almost every roll except 7 wins something. It still loses on average, because every component has its own edge.
  • Hot shooter. A long round is a run of independent rolls, not a sign of what comes next; see the gambler’s fallacy.
  • Pressing after wins. Raising stakes after a win changes how much you have at risk, not your odds.
  • Martingale on Pass. Doubling after each loss runs into table limits and large stakes quickly; our betting systems explained page shows the numbers.

Online craps UK rules and protections

In Great Britain, online craps falls under the Gambling Commission’s casino rules. Since 17 January 2025 every game cycle must be started individually and RNG casino games must take at least 5 seconds per cycle, as set out in the speed-of-play decision (opens in a new tab). Your net position and session time must also be on screen.

There is no national stake cap for craps; the £5 and £2 per-spin limits apply to online slots only. Bonuses used on craps are subject to the 10x wagering cap, though many terms exclude table games or give them low contribution. Credit cards can’t be used to fund play, under the credit card ban in force since April 2020. You can confirm any operator on the Gambling Commission register (opens in a new tab).

Playing craps on a budget

Pick the stake that lets your budget last the session you want. At £2 on the Pass line with a 1.41% edge, 100 resolved bets (£200 staked) cost about £2.82 on average, though the actual result will swing well either side. Adding odds raises the money at risk per round, so lower your base bet if you plan to take odds. Our casino bankroll basics guide explains how to set a session budget.

If you want to stop gambling at every UK-licensed site at once, GAMSTOP (opens in a new tab) offers free self-exclusion, and the National Gambling Helpline is free on 0808 8020 133.

Frequently asked questions

Can you play craps online in the UK?

Yes. Online craps is legal for adults in Great Britain at casinos licensed by the Gambling Commission, in RNG, live dealer and First Person formats. It is less widely stocked than roulette or blackjack, so check a casino’s lobby before depositing. The same rules apply as for other casino games: no autoplay, a minimum game cycle on RNG versions and visible session information. Northern Ireland is covered by separate law; see can I play UK casinos in Northern Ireland?

What is the best bet in craps?

The free odds bet is the best in craps because it pays true odds and has no house edge. You can only place it behind a Pass, Don’t Pass, Come or Don’t Come bet once a point is set. Of the bets you can make on their own, Don’t Pass (1.36%), Pass (1.41%) and Place 6 or 8 (1.52%) are cheapest. One-roll bets in the middle of the table typically cost 11% to 17%. Our low house edge games guide compares craps with other tables.

How does the come-out roll work?

The come-out roll is the first roll of each round. For Pass bets, 7 or 11 wins straight away and 2, 3 or 12 loses. For Don’t Pass, 2 or 3 wins, 12 is a push and 7 or 11 loses. Any other total, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10, becomes the point, and the round continues until that number or a 7 is rolled. Pass has a 22.2% chance of winning on the come-out itself. See our casino dice games page for related formats.

What is the house edge in craps?

It ranges from 0% to about 17% depending on the bet. Pass and Come carry 1.41%, Don’t Pass and Don’t Come 1.36%, Place 6 or 8 1.52%, Place 5 or 9 4%, Place 4 or 10 6.67% and the standard Field 5.56%. Hardways run 9.09% to 11.11% and Any seven 16.67%. The odds bet has no edge. Your total cost depends on how much you stake on which bets. Our house edge explained guide shows how these are calculated.

Is Pass or Don’t Pass better?

Don’t Pass is very slightly cheaper, at a 1.36% edge against 1.41% for Pass. The difference comes from the 12 on the come-out roll, which loses for Pass but is only a push for Don’t Pass. Over £1,000 staked the gap is about 50p. Don’t Pass bettors win when the shooter sevens out, which some players find less fun at a busy table, but online there’s no social side. Our understanding casino odds guide explains the maths.

What does seven-out mean?

A seven-out happens when a 7 is rolled after a point has been set and before the point is repeated. It ends the round: Pass and Come bets with points lose, Don’t Pass bets win, and most place bets are taken down as losers. A new come-out roll then begins. Seven is the most common two-dice total, with a 1 in 6 chance on every roll, which is why rounds often end this way. Our dice glossary defines more table terms.

Is online craps rigged?

Online craps at UK-licensed casinos is not rigged. RNG versions use random number generators tested by independent labs before release, and live versions use real dice thrown in a studio. The game’s profit comes from paytables that pay slightly less than true odds on most bets. If you think a roll was settled incorrectly, contact the casino with the round ID and escalate to the independent dispute service it names if needed. See how casino games are tested.

Can I use a casino bonus on craps?

Possibly, but many UK bonus terms exclude craps or count it at a low percentage towards wagering because its low-edge bets would make bonuses easy to clear. Since 19 January 2026 wagering can’t exceed 10 times the bonus, but a 10% contribution rate would still mean staking far more than that. Free spins from offers like PlayOJO’s or Coral’s are for slots only. Read the game weighting rules before you opt in. 18+, terms apply.

How long does a game of craps take online?

A single roll on an RNG table must take at least 5 seconds under UK rules, while live tables run at the studio’s slower pace, with time for bets between rolls. A round lasts from one roll to many: on average a Pass line bet takes about three to four rolls to resolve. That means a single bet can be in play for several minutes at a live table. Use a reality check to keep track of time.
