Hacksaw Gaming casino games

Hacksaw Gaming casino games are mobile-first slots, scratchcards and instant-win titles from a Malta-based studio launched in September 2018, best known for Wanted Dead or a Wild, Chaos Crew and the Le series. This guide covers the company behind them, the UK licence (held as HGMT Limited), how to read its 1–5 volatility scale and how its games run under British rules.

Key takeaways

  • Hacksaw’s GB licence is held by HGMT Limited, Gambling Commission account 54059, active since 2 October 2019.
  • Its parent, Hacksaw AB, has been listed on Nasdaq Stockholm (ticker HACK) since 25 June 2025.
  • Each game shows volatility on a 1–5 scale; flagship titles such as Wanted Dead or a Wild and Chaos Crew sit at the top.
  • UK versions have no bonus buy, a 2.5-second minimum spin and a £5 (25+) or £2 (18–24) stake cap.

Hacksaw Gaming casino games at a glance

Hacksaw Gaming launched in September 2018 and is based in Malta. It makes three kinds of product: video slots, scratchcards and instant-win games, plus OpenRGS, a platform other studios can use to deliver games to casinos. The company puts its own catalogue at more than 250 games. Group chief executive Christoffer Källberg leads the business.

In British lobbies Hacksaw is recognisable from its art style and portrait-friendly layouts, and from a habit of publishing a volatility score inside every game. If you want to know how studios relate to casinos and aggregators, our software providers guide covers it; the providers hub lists all the studios we profile.

From a 2018 launch to a Stockholm listing

The headline change of the past two years is the stock market listing. Hacksaw AB began trading on Nasdaq Stockholm under the ticker HACK on 25 June 2025, so the group now publishes regular financial reports. The listing doesn’t change how its games work, but it does mean more public information about the business.

Hacksaw’s UK licence: why the register says HGMT Limited

Search the Commission’s register for ‘Hacksaw’ and you may not find the brand name, because the licence sits with HGMT Limited, account number 54059, with a head office in Msida, Malta. It holds two active remote licences under one licence number: gambling software and game host (casino), both from 2 October 2019.

Having both matters. The software licence covers making and supplying the games, and the game host licence covers running them on Hacksaw’s own servers while the casino handles your account and money. You can confirm the record on the Gambling Commission’s register of businesses (opens in a new tab) by searching the account number. Our licence-check walkthrough explains each field, and the glossary entry on licence holders explains why trading names and company names often differ.

Two patterns stand out. The RTPs cluster tightly between about 96.2% and 96.5%, and the max wins are large across the board, from 5,000x to 20,000x. The Le series (Le Bandit, Le Pharaoh, Le Viking) is the medium-volatility end of the catalogue, while the Chaos Crew games and Wanted Dead or a Wild are built for rare, larger results.

Reading Hacksaw’s 1–5 volatility scale

Most studios publish volatility as a word, if at all. Hacksaw shows a score from 1 to 5 in the game information, which makes comparisons easier. It is a description of how results are spread, not of the average return: a 3 and a 5 can have almost the same RTP. Our volatility guide explains the idea, and hit frequency covers the related measure of how often any win lands.

A worked example: the same £20, two different games

Take a £20 budget at 20p a spin, which is 100 spins. On a medium (3 of 5) game such as Le Pharaoh, you would typically expect frequent small returns that slow the budget’s decline, with features landing now and then. On a 5 of 5 game such as Chaos Crew, many sessions of 100 spins will see the budget fall steadily with few meaningful wins, and a smaller number will hit a feature large enough to change the picture. The expected cost of both is around 74p to 76p per £20 staked (100% minus RTP), but how it feels is very different.

Hacksaw scratchcards and instant-win games

Scratchcards and instant-win titles are a big part of Hacksaw’s range. An online scratchcard settles in a single reveal: the outcome is decided when you buy it, and the animation simply shows it. Returns are published in the same way as slots, and some instant games have quite different RTPs from the studio’s slots, so check each one. Our online scratchcards page explains how they work.

Because the result is immediate, instant games can be played very quickly. UK design rules for online games, including the ban on autoplay and the requirement to show your net position, aim to slow things down and keep you aware of what you have spent. A reality check reminder is a sensible extra; our guide to reality checks shows how to set one.

OpenRGS: Hacksaw as a platform for other studios

Besides its own games, Hacksaw runs OpenRGS, a remote game server platform. An RGS is the system that hosts the game logic and talks to the casino’s wallet. By opening its platform to other studios, Hacksaw can distribute their games as well as its own, which is why a lobby’s Hacksaw section sometimes includes titles with other studio names. A similar role is played by an aggregator, though an aggregator usually connects many separate platforms.

For a player, the practical point is that the game’s help screen names the studio and shows the RTP, whichever platform it runs on. The supplier of record still needs to be licensed for Great Britain.

Hacksaw Gaming casino games under British rules

Hacksaw is known in some markets for bonus-buy options. Those are absent from versions supplied to Great Britain: features are reached only through normal play. This is how games are supplied to British operators rather than a single dated rule, and our no bonus buy page explains the background.

How to find Hacksaw Gaming casino games in a UK lobby

  1. Log in to a UK-licensed casino and open the slots or instant-win section.
  2. Use the provider filter for Hacksaw Gaming; scratchcards may sit under a separate Instant or Scratch tab.
  3. Search for a title such as Wanted Dead or a Wild if no filter is available.
  4. Open the game’s information panel and read the RTP and the 1–5 volatility score.
  5. Pick a stake that fits your budget and age-band limit, and remember features can’t be bought.
  6. Turn on a reality check or deposit limit before a long session.

On a phone, the provider filter is often hidden behind a ‘filter’ or ‘more’ button; our mobile casino guide shows where to look.

Where to play Hacksaw-style slots with a welcome offer

Frequently asked questions

Is Hacksaw Gaming licensed in the UK?

Yes, through HGMT Limited, which holds Gambling Commission account 54059 with remote licences for gambling software and casino game hosting, both active since 2 October 2019. The register lists a head office in Msida, Malta. Searching ‘Hacksaw’ alone may not find it, so use the account number. A supplier licence doesn’t replace the casino’s own licence; both should be in place. Our guide to checking a licence walks through the register.

Who owns Hacksaw Gaming?

Hacksaw AB, which has been listed on Nasdaq Stockholm under the ticker HACK since 25 June 2025, so its shares are publicly traded. The group is run by chief executive Christoffer Källberg and the studio is based in Malta, having launched in September 2018. As a listed company it publishes regular financial reports. Ownership doesn’t change how individual games work. You can compare other studios’ ownership on our providers hub.

What is the most popular Hacksaw Gaming slot?

Wanted Dead or a Wild is its best-known slot: a 5×5 western-themed game with 15 paylines, a published RTP of 96.38%, high volatility and a 12,500x max win. Chaos Crew, Hand of Anubis and the Le series (Le Bandit, Le Pharaoh, Le Viking) are also widely stocked. Popularity reflects marketing and features, not better odds. For a sense of how often games like these pay, see our answer on how often slots pay out.

What does Hacksaw’s volatility rating mean?

It is a 1–5 score in each game’s information panel describing how unevenly the game pays, with 5 the swingiest. A 5 means long runs of small or no wins and rare large ones; a 3 spreads results more evenly. It says nothing about the average return, which is set by the RTP. Chaos Crew (5 of 5) and Le Pharaoh (3 of 5) have almost the same RTP but feel very different. Our volatility guide explains the maths.

Can I buy bonuses in Hacksaw games in the UK?

No. Hacksaw offers bonus-buy options in some markets, but the versions supplied to Great Britain leave them out, so free spins and features can only be triggered in normal play. This is described as how games are supplied to British operators, not as a dated rule. A buy button on a site claiming to serve UK players is a reason to check that site’s licence. Our page on no bonus buy in the UK gives more detail.

Does Hacksaw Gaming make scratchcards?

Yes. Scratchcards and instant-win games are part of its range alongside slots. An online scratchcard is settled in one reveal, with the result fixed at purchase and the animation only showing it. RTPs differ from game to game and can differ from the studio’s slots, so read each help screen. Because instant games are quick, set a budget and a reminder first. Our online scratchcards page explains how they work and what to check.

What is the max win on Hacksaw slots?

Published maximums range from 5,000x on Joker Bombs to 20,000x on Chaos Crew 2, with Wanted Dead or a Wild at 12,500x and Le Pharaoh at 15,000x. Those are ceilings, reached on a vanishingly small share of spins, and the games still return less than they take over time. At a 20p stake, 12,500x is £2,500. Under UK limits the most you can stake is £5, or £2 if you are 18 to 24. Our max win glossary entry explains how caps apply.

What is Hacksaw OpenRGS?

OpenRGS is Hacksaw’s remote game server platform, which other studios can use to deliver their games to casinos through Hacksaw’s systems. An RGS hosts the game logic and connects to the casino’s wallet. It explains why some games in a lobby’s Hacksaw section carry other studio names. For you, the important information is still in each game’s help screen: the studio, the rules and the RTP. Our guide to reading game help screens shows what to look for.

Are Hacksaw games fair?

Games supplied to Great Britain must meet the Gambling Commission’s technical standards, which require random results and accurate game information, and HGMT Limited holds both software and game host licences. Independent testing labs check games before release. Fair doesn’t mean favourable: every game is built with a house edge, so losses are likely over time. Our guide to testing labs explains who checks the games and what they look at.
