Max cashout meaning

Max cashout meaning: a limit, written into a bonus's terms, on how much money won with that bonus can be withdrawn. Anything above the cap is normally removed when wagering finishes. It is a promotion rule, not a cap on your own cash, and not the same as a game's max win.

Key takeaways

  • A max cashout caps the withdrawable winnings that come from a bonus or bonus spins.
  • 10bet's welcome match, for example, caps bonus winnings at £1,000.
  • Your own deposit and any winnings from real-money play are not normally covered by it.
  • It is set by the casino's terms, unlike a slot's max win, which is set by the game studio.

Max cashout meaning in casino terms

When a casino gives you bonus money or bonus spins, it can limit how much of the resulting winnings you may take out. That limit is the max cashout, sometimes written as "maximum conversion", "max bonus winnings" or "maximum withdrawal from bonus". Once you meet the wagering requirement, the casino converts bonus winnings to cash up to the cap and removes the rest.

The term has nothing to do with the "cash out" button on a sports bet, and it is not a general limit on how much you can withdraw from your account. Casino-wide limits, such as a maximum per transaction, are covered in our guide to casino withdrawal limits.

A max cashout worked through in pounds

10bet's casino welcome offer (18+, new UK customers) matches the first deposit 100% up to £25, requires the bonus to be wagered 10x on slots within 3 days, and caps maximum bonus winnings at £1,000. Here is how a cap of that kind plays out, using round numbers.

  1. You deposit £25 and receive a £25 bonus.
  2. Wagering is 10 × £25 = £250 of slot bets, completed within 3 days.
  3. Most of the time the balance shrinks during wagering, because the house edge applies to every bet, and the cap never comes into play.
  4. In a rare session where the bonus-linked balance ends at, say, £1,600, the winnings attributable to the bonus are limited to £1,000.
  5. The amount above the cap is removed, and the rest becomes withdrawable cash. The exact calculation, including how your deposit is counted, is set out in the full terms.

Read caps in context: in the usual outcome a bonus is played down, not up. A cap matters only on the rare occasions when play goes well, which is why it can be easy to overlook when signing up.

Why casinos set a max cashout

A cap limits the casino's exposure on money it gave away. It tends to appear on offers where the casino takes most of the cost, such as no-deposit promotions, which our partners do not currently run; see why are there no no-deposit bonuses for the background. On deposit matches, a cap is a way to offer a bonus while limiting the extreme outcome.

UK rules do not ban caps, but they do require fairness and clarity. The Gambling Commission's rewards and bonuses code, LCCP 5.1.1 (opens in a new tab), requires incentive terms to be clear and readily available, and the ASA expects significant conditions to appear in the advert itself, as its note on promotional terms and significant conditions (opens in a new tab) explains. A cash-out cap is a significant condition, so it should never be buried.

Max cashout and your rights as a UK player

Earlier enforcement shaped how caps can work. In 2018 several operators gave undertakings to the Competition and Markets Authority; the CMA's online gambling case page (opens in a new tab) records commitments such as letting players withdraw their own money during bonus play and, for two named firms, not imposing maximum withdrawal limits. Those undertakings bind the named firms, but they show the direction of travel: a cap on bonus winnings is acceptable when disclosed; a cap that traps your own deposit is not.

If you think a cap was applied that was not disclosed, or was applied to money that was not bonus-linked, start with the casino's complaints process, then an approved dispute service. Our pages on can a casino keep your winnings and complaints and ADR explain the route.

  • Max win: the game's own ceiling per round, set by the studio.
  • Max bet: the stake cap while a bonus is active; Casumo's is £5 per bet.
  • No wagering: winnings paid as cash, though a cap can still apply if the terms say so.
  • Bonus expiry: the deadline that can remove bonus winnings before any cap is reached.

Frequently asked questions

What does max cashout mean on a casino bonus?

It means there is a ceiling on how much money won with the bonus can be withdrawn. Once wagering is complete, winnings up to the cap become cash and anything above it is removed. The cap is part of the bonus terms, so it applies only to bonus-linked winnings, not your own deposit. 10bet's welcome match, for instance, caps bonus winnings at £1,000. Our how to read bonus terms guide shows where caps appear, and voided winnings explained covers related removals.

Is max cashout the same as max win?

No; max cashout comes from the casino's bonus terms, while max win is the game studio's ceiling for a single round. A slot might allow 5,000x your stake, yet a bonus played on it could still be capped at a fixed amount such as £1,000. The lower of the two always decides what you can keep from bonus play. See our max win entry and the longer max win explained guide for how the game ceiling works.

Does a max cashout apply to my own deposit?

It should not; a cap on bonus winnings is about money the casino gave you, not money you paid in. How the terms treat a mixed balance depends on whether cash or bonus is played first, and on the exact wording. If a cap ever seems to reduce your own deposit, ask the casino to show the term relied on, then complain if the answer does not match. Read can I withdraw a casino bonus and sticky vs non-sticky bonuses.

Do no-wagering spins have a max cashout?

Some do and some do not, so the offer terms are the only reliable answer. No wagering means winnings are paid as cash rather than locked behind play-through, but a casino can still set a separate limit on total spins winnings. At 10p a spin, a large cap is rarely reached, though it can matter on a big feature. Compare offers on our no-wagering free spins page and read the free spins winnings explained guide.

Are max cashout caps legal in the UK?

Yes, a cap on bonus winnings is legal if it is clearly disclosed and applied fairly. The Gambling Commission requires incentive terms to be clear, transparent and readily accessible, and advertising rules require significant conditions to appear with the offer. What would be unfair is a hidden cap, or one used to keep money that was never bonus-linked. Our bonus terms rules page covers the rules, and can casinos change bonus terms explains changes after you opt in.

How do I check a max cashout before claiming?

Open the offer's full terms and search the page for words such as maximum, cap, conversion and winnings. The significant terms summary near the sign-up button should also mention any cap, alongside wagering, expiry and the minimum deposit. If none appears, ask live chat and save the reply. Our casino welcome offer checklist lists the points to confirm, and what is a fair casino bonus helps you weigh a cap against the rest of the deal.

What happens to winnings above the max cashout?

They are removed from your account when the bonus converts to cash, usually at the moment wagering is completed. With a £1,000 cap and £1,600 of bonus-linked winnings, for example, £600 would go. The casino should be able to show the calculation. If it removes money you believe was real cash, that is a dispute worth raising. Our guides on what to do if a casino won't pay and how to complain about a casino set out the steps.
