Who operates William Hill casino online
William Hill is one of the oldest names in British gambling, but its website is not run by the same company as its betting shops. Online, the licence holder is WHG (International) Limited, based in Gibraltar. The Gambling Commission’s register entry for WHG (International) Limited (opens in a new tab) shows account 39225 with remote casino, bingo, betting and pool betting licences, all dating from November 2014.
When you open a William Hill casino account, WHG (International) Limited is the company responsible for your balance, your identity checks and any complaint. High-street betting shops are covered by separate non-remote licences. Our operator glossary entry explains why the company in the footer is the one that matters, and the UK casino brands list shows how other high-street names are structured.
William Hill history, 1934 to evoke
William Hill founded his bookmaking business in 1934. Over the following decades it became a fixture of the high street and later moved online. The key dates for the online casino are more recent.

evoke plc, known as 888 Holdings until its rebrand, bought William Hill in July 2022. That deal put William Hill alongside the 888 brands and Mr Green. Today’s sister brands include:
888poker and 888sport, the poker and sportsbook arms
Mr Green, a casino brand in the same group
Group siblings may or may not share a licence holder, so check each brand’s footer. Where they share one, account restrictions and safer gambling decisions can apply across brands. Our guide to casino sister sites explains the difference between group ownership and a shared licence.
The 2026 Bally’s Intralot deal: what it could change
In June 2026, evoke agreed to be taken over by Bally’s Intralot. Reports at the time expected completion in late 2026 or early 2027, subject to approvals. We haven’t confirmed completion as of 20 October 2026, so treat it as pending.
If it completes, William Hill would sit in the same group as the Gamesys brands, including Virgin Games, which joined Bally’s Intralot in October 2025. For players, the important point is that a change of owner doesn’t change your licence holder or your rights unless the register shows a new company. Watch for updated terms by email, and check the register if the footer changes. Our guide on rebranded casinos explains what can shift after a takeover.
Ownership changes are a common moment for terms to be updated. Consumer law expects fair notice of significant changes; our page on whether casinos can change bonus terms covers what’s allowed.

We haven’t summarised the findings in detail because we haven’t verified them line by line. The size of the 2023 settlement put it among the largest the Commission had agreed at the time; the Gambling Commission fines page explains how penalties are calculated and where the money goes.
How to check William Hill casino on the register
Look at the William Hill website footer for the licence holder and account number.
Confirm WHG (International) Limited’s remote casino licence is active.
Check the domain list for the William Hill address you use.
Read the regulatory actions tab, and recheck the owner details once the Bally’s Intralot deal completes.

Safer gambling tools at William Hill
WHG (International) Limited must offer deposit limits, time-outs, reality checks and self-exclusion, and take part in GAMSTOP. We haven’t reviewed how William Hill presents these, so check its safer gambling pages for the specific settings. Limit reductions take effect straight away under the rules.
If you bet on sport and play casino from one account, consider whether a single limit covers both. A GAMSTOP (opens in a new tab) registration blocks every GB-licensed site, including all evoke brands. The National Gambling Helpline is free and open 24/7 on 0808 8020 133. Our time-outs guide explains shorter breaks.
William Hill compared with other high-street casino brands
William Hill competes most directly with Coral and Ladbrokes, the two Entain high-street brands run by LC International Limited. All three are betting-led and have casino tabs.
High-street and casino-first alternatives to William Hill
Because we don’t partner with William Hill, we can’t show its current offer. The nearest like-for-like alternative is Coral, another high-street bookmaker with a casino: new players (18+) who deposit and bet £10 on slots receive 100 spins worth 10p each on selected games, to be accepted within 48 hours and used within 7 days, with no wagering on winnings. PayPal, Skrill, Neteller, Paysafe, prepaid cards and certain debit cards don’t qualify, and the offer runs until 1 February 2027.
If you’d rather use a casino-only brand, PlayOJO gives 80 spins on Big Bass Bonanza at 10p each for a first deposit of at least £10 (UK, not Northern Ireland), paid as cash with no wagering, and Casumo matches 50% of a first deposit of £20 or more up to £100, with 10x wagering within 7 days. 18+, terms apply. See our Coral free spins guide for the full claim steps.

Frequently asked questions
Who owns William Hill casino?
evoke plc, formerly 888 Holdings, has owned William Hill since July 2022. The online casino is operated by WHG (International) Limited, which holds Gambling Commission account 39225. In June 2026 evoke agreed to a takeover by Bally’s Intralot; as of 20 October 2026 we haven’t confirmed it has completed. Your contract remains with WHG (International) Limited either way. Our licence holder entry explains why that company matters more than the group.
Is William Hill casino licensed in the UK?
Yes. WHG (International) Limited holds remote casino, bingo, betting and pool betting licences from the Gambling Commission under account 39225, active since November 2014. That means William Hill’s online casino must follow UK rules on stake limits, game speed, bonus wagering and safer gambling tools. You can confirm the licence on the public register by searching the account number. See our guide to checking a casino licence for each step.
Will Bally’s Intralot take over William Hill?
evoke plc, William Hill’s owner, agreed in June 2026 to be acquired by Bally’s Intralot. Reports at the time pointed to completion in late 2026 or early 2027, subject to approvals, and we haven’t confirmed completion as of 20 October 2026. If it goes through, William Hill would join the same group as Gamesys brands such as Virgin Games. A takeover doesn’t change your rights. Our rebranded casinos guide explains what to watch for.
What are William Hill’s sister sites?
Within the evoke group, William Hill’s sister brands include 888casino, 888poker, 888sport and Mr Green. Group brands may or may not share a licence holder, so check each footer. Where they share one, a restriction or self-exclusion at one may extend to the others. If the Bally’s Intralot deal completes, the wider group will also include Gamesys brands. Our 888casino profile covers the group’s flagship casino in more detail.
Has William Hill been fined by the Gambling Commission?
Yes. William Hill’s online operator received a £6.2m penalty in 2018, and in March 2023 William Hill group companies agreed a £19.2m settlement with the Commission. Both are among the larger regulatory actions in the UK market. The published statements on the Commission’s enforcement pages give the detailed findings. Our page on Gambling Commission fines explains how settlements differ from penalties and how the money is used.
Where is William Hill’s online casino based?
The licence holder for the online business, WHG (International) Limited, is based in Gibraltar, while the brand has British roots going back to 1934. Gibraltar is a common base for UK-facing operators, but the location doesn’t affect your rights in Great Britain. Any operator serving British customers must hold a Commission licence and meet its conditions. Our remote casino licence page sets out what that involves.
Can I get casino spins at William Hill for a sports bet?
No. Since 19 January 2026, the Commission has banned promotions that mix gambling products, so William Hill, like every UK-licensed operator, can’t link a sports bet to casino spins or the other way round. Each promotion must stay within one product, such as casino only. The same date brought a 10x cap on bonus wagering. Our mixed-product promotions ban page explains what still counts as allowed.
Is William Hill casino safe?
William Hill’s online casino holds an active UK licence, so it must follow Commission rules on fair games, identity checks, safer gambling tools and dispute resolution. It has also faced penalties in 2018 and 2023, which you can read about on the Commission’s enforcement pages. A licence protects how you’re treated, not your balance: every game has a house edge. Our page on whether online casinos are rigged explains how fairness is tested.
Do William Hill betting shops and the casino share a company?
Not exactly. The online casino is run by WHG (International) Limited under a remote licence, account 39225. Betting shops operate under separate non-remote licences. Both sit within the William Hill business owned by evoke, but the company you deal with online is the Gibraltar-based remote licensee. If you have a complaint about the website, raise it with the online operator. Our guide on online vs land-based casinos explains the regulatory differences.
How do I complain about William Hill casino?
Raise the complaint with William Hill’s customer service first and keep a record of every exchange. If you receive a final response you don’t accept, or eight weeks pass without one, take the dispute to the ADR provider named in the terms. ADR is free and independent. The Commission won’t decide individual disputes but does want reports of rule breaches. Our casino complaints guide walks through the process.
