About Michael Madden
Editor and lead reviewer at Latest Casinos. Tracking the UK casino market monthly since 2014, with a focus on what is new — fresh bonuses, recent library additions, just-launched operators and current UKGC regulatory shifts.
Background
I have been writing about UK gambling products for more than a decade — first as a freelance contributor to various comparison and review sites, then as the lead reviewer here at Latest Casinos. The defining frustration that drove me into this work was simple: most UK casino comparison sites publish reviews and let them sit. A review written in 2022 with the 2022 welcome offer still ranks in Google in 2026 even though the bonus, the library and often the operator have all changed since.
Latest Casinos is built on the opposite principle. Every operator we cover is fully re-reviewed monthly. Every page on the site is refreshed within seven days of any material change at any operator. The "last updated" date on every page reflects the actual last refresh, not a script-incremented placeholder. If our May 2026 Ladbrokes review says the welcome offer is "Bet £10, get 100 free spins", that is the offer running this month — verified by personally claiming it during the review period.
Areas of Expertise
- UK Gambling Commission regulation. I track UKGC consultations, enforcement actions and policy changes. Every major reform of the past decade has been covered in detail: the 2020 credit card ban, the 2021 autoplay restriction, the 2022 bonus buy ban at UK casinos, the 2023 10x wagering cap, the 2024 £5 stake cap, and the 2025 £2 cap for 18–24-year-olds. The current rulebook lives at our UKGC 2026 rules guide.
- Casino bonus tracking. The monthly refresh sweep on Latest Casinos captures every structural change to UK casino welcome offers in real time. Recycled marketing copy does not count as a fresh bonus; structural changes do. The framework for telling them apart is detailed in our spotting fresh bonuses guide.
- Casino launch coverage. The UKGC licensing process is rigorous and slow — typically 6–12 months. I have tracked dozens of new UK casino launches through soft launch into public release. The process is documented in how new UK casinos launch, and the currently-tracked launches live on our recently licensed UK casinos page.
- Game library curation. I have played and tested every major slot studio's output: Pragmatic Play, NetEnt, Microgaming, Play'n GO, Big Time Gaming, Nolimit City, Hacksaw Gaming, Push Gaming, Yggdrasil, Red Tiger, Blueprint, Relax Gaming and most independents. Studio design philosophies and recurring mechanics inform every operator scoring on library depth and refresh rate.
- Responsible gambling tooling. I have tested every UKGC-licensed operator's deposit limits, time limits, self-exclusion flow, reality checks and GAMSTOP integration. The quality of responsible gambling tooling varies wildly between operators and influences the trust component of our scoring. The current state of play is documented in our responsible gambling 2026 guide.
Editorial Principles
- Personal testing. I do not write about operators I have not personally registered with, deposited at, played at, and withdrawn from. Every review on Latest Casinos reflects hands-on testing of the live product.
- Monthly refresh. Every operator page is fully re-reviewed on the first Monday of every month, with within-seven-days refreshes on any material change. The "last updated" date on every page is the actual last refresh date.
- No pay-to-rank. Commission rates have no influence on my scoring. If an operator offers higher commission for higher placement, the answer is no — and I publish the request. Read the full affiliate disclosure.
- Transparent methodology. The scoring uses six weighted criteria — freshness, bonus value, library, payments, UX and trust. The full scoring methodology is published openly.
- Open corrections. If I get something wrong, I publish the correction with a date and explanation. Tell me if you spot something.
- Responsible gambling first. Every page on Latest Casinos carries responsible gambling messaging and links to BeGambleAware, GamCare and GAMSTOP. If you ever feel gambling is becoming a problem, please use them.
